Local services and rules
Moving to Boise: who to call and what the city asks.
Boise is the county seat of Ada County. Parking meters in the city may be reserved for brief durations for approved projects and events through a Short Term Meter Permit. The application must be submitted at least 48 hours ahead, and a request for specific spaces at least one week ahead. Anyone may also contract with a solid waste hauler of their choosing for a temporary project-specific container, as long as the container meets the city's definition; Republic Services can be called at (208) 345-1266. The same number is used to request a bulky item pick-up, and up to six bulky items (furniture, mattresses and box springs, appliances and similar) are collected per customer per year when placed at the curb or in the alley.
Residential permit zones and downtown parking
The city regulates residential permit parking zones in neighborhoods with many vehicles not owned by area residents, restricting parking by non-residents. Residents with a valid residential permit may apply for visitor parking passes.
In downtown Boise, parking regulations are enforced at all times unless otherwise posted, including loading zones and 1 or 2-hour parking.
City Utility Billing for water renewal, trash and more
The City of Boise manages billing for water renewal (sewer), trash, recycling, compost, pressure irrigation and geothermal. Utility Billing can be called at 208-608-7460, and the same office takes questions about a utility bill, account changes, or a broken or missing cart.
A household on a well, or one that does not receive a VEOLIA water bill, completes the Annual Water Update form so the city can work out its Water Renewal (sewer) usage.
Trash, blue-cart recycling and compost days
Trash is collected every week on the household's designated trash day, and the collection day is found on Republic Services' collection day map. Each household receives five Overflow Stickers a year for extra trash, which must be placed in a separate 20-32-gallon trash can.
Residential recycling goes in the blue cart and is collected every other week on the household's trash day. Curbside compost is collected once a week, all year round.
Household hazardous waste at the Ada County Landfill
Residents may take household hazardous waste to the facility at the Ada County Landfill on Fridays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program does not accept explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, biomedical waste or tires.
Idaho Power, Valley Regional Transit and the library card
Idaho Power handles electric service changes through an online form where customers say when and where they are moving.
Valley Regional Transit runs bus routes in Boise, including three routes to the Boise Airport Monday through Saturday.
Boise residents and people who own property within Boise City limits qualify for a library card, applied for online or at any Boise Public Library location with photo ID and proof of address.
