Snow emergency routes and the ROW Obstruction Permit

The City Engineer may declare a snow emergency through local news media and social media. When a snow emergency is declared, parking is banned on all snow emergency routes for 48 hours, with north/south streets cleared one day and east/west streets the next.

During a snow emergency, parking on the streets of the Downtown Special Services District is banned between 3:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or until the snow has been removed from the street and sidewalks on that block. Vehicles parked and plowed around on Snow Emergency Routes or in the Downtown Special Services District are ticketed and towed immediately at the owner's expense.

For a dumpster or similar item that blocks an area in the right-of-way, the city has a ROW Obstruction Permit application. It is separate from the excavation permit application.

Starting BPU service, the rental license and the sales tax

New BPU customers start service by visiting the BPU Business Office at 8027 Highland Scenic Rd or calling 218-825-3200, and complete a Utility Billing Application. A renter cannot have a BPU account put in their name until BPU has received a copy of the rental lease and a photo ID.

When water or electric service is stopped at a residence, BPU requires 24 hours notice to do a final reading.
