Moving to Brooklyn Park: who to call and what the city asks.

Brooklyn Park is a suburban city in northern Hennepin County, on the west bank of the Mississippi River, and three school districts serve it: Osseo 279, Anoka-Hennepin 11 and Robbinsdale 281. The city offers an interactive school map showing which one applies to an address. All residents and businesses choose and set up their own garbage service with one of the licensed haulers the city lists, while the city handles recycling, collected every other week on the same day as garbage pickup. The city also has two off-leash dog parks, Brookdale Park and the Mississippi Gateway Regional Park, and leashes are required in all other parks and trails.

Parking on city streets

From November 1 to March 31, vehicles may not be parked on city streets from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., regardless of weather. Violators are ticketed and towed.

When a snow emergency is called, vehicles may not park on city streets until the full width of the street has been plowed.

Vehicles may not be parked on a city street for more than 24 hours.

Garbage cart timing

Carts go to the curb by 6:30 a.m. on garbage day, and pickup happens no later than 6:30 p.m. Containers may be put out after 3:00 p.m. on the day before pickup, and must be stored out of public view from the street or neighboring yards.

Recycling carts come in three sizes, with no price difference between them and no fee to switch.

Extra trash, furniture and other large items can be taken to the Waste Management Transfer Station in Maple Grove, the Anoka Recycling Disposal Center or the SKB Transfer Station in Minneapolis.

Drop-off sites for appliances, donations and yard waste

The Hennepin County Recycling and Transfer Station at 8100 Jefferson Highway N. takes appliances, batteries, electronics, mattresses, organics, plastic bags, paint and hazardous material. Bridging accepts donations of reusable furniture and housewares. Leaves, brush and other yard waste can be dropped off for free at the Maple Grove Yardwaste Site. The City of Brooklyn Park provides water, sewer, recycling, storm sewer and street lighting, and bills for them once every three months.
