Moving to David City: who to call and what the city asks.

David City is the county seat of Butler County, Nebraska. Butler County Health Care Center, a Rural Critical Access Hospital, is located in David City. Door-to-door vendors must register and obtain an itinerant sales permit.

Parking on residential streets and in the central business district

Parking a motor vehicle or trailer on the roadway of public streets in residential areas is not allowed between 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

In the central business district, parking is prohibited between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets and alleys that are posted with permanent snow removal signs, when there are two or more inches of snowfall and until the snow has been removed.

Non-residents can get a permit for on-street residential parking, obtained in advance from the Butler County Sheriff department.

Illegally parked vehicles can be ticketed, towed and impounded. It is unlawful to obstruct or encumber any street, alley or sidewalk with fences, gates, buildings, structures, vehicles or anything else.

After a wind storm the city street department picks up large limbs that have fallen on the street. Sidewalks in the business district must be cleared within five hours after a storm ends, or before 8:30 a.m. the next day if it fell overnight; residential sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after the storm. Removing a street tree, meaning woody vegetation on the right-of-way between property lines and the street, requires a permit.

Building permits are required for new construction such as garages, sheds, additions, new sidewalks and driveways.
