Local services and rules

Moving to Fond du Lac: who to call and what the city asks.

City crews collect leaves from the terraces each fall, and the leaves are raked in rows next to the curb rather than bagged. The city does not pick up grass, garden waste or branches from homes; those go to the Municipal Service Center.

Winter parking rules and downtown permits

From November 15th through March 15th, on-street parking is restricted between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM. During the restrictions, parking from 8:00 PM on even-numbered days is on the even side of the street only, and odd-numbered days follow the odd side. No permits are required.

Parking on Main Street downtown is free with a two hour limit, and downtown parking is free on evenings and weekends. Downtown parking permits are bought at the Central Collections Office in the City-County Government Center, 160 South Macy Street, or by phone at (920) 322-3460.

Fond du Lac Waterworks service forms

Water service is applied for with a Service Agreement Form, which is emailed or mailed to the Fond du Lac Waterworks business office. Forms for a water service transfer must reach the Waterworks office within five business days of the transfer.

Garbage and recycling carts

Garbage is collected weekly in green/teal carts. The service stays with the home when ownership changes, so it does not need to be started or cancelled. The collection day for a given address is looked up by entering the address in the city's Solid Waste Schedule.

Carts must be at the curb by 5:00 A.M. on collection day. Loose trash left outside the cart is not collected.

Recycling is collected every other week on the same day as garbage collection. Recycling carts are provided through the recycling hauler, limited to one per household.

Bulky item pickup and drop-off sites

Curbside collection of bulky household items is available throughout the city and is scheduled by phone at 920-322-3540. City residents can also drop off bulky household items at the Municipal Service Center, 490 Doty Street.

Extra recycling that does not fit the recycling cart can be dropped off free of charge at the hauler's facility at 1207 S Hickory Street.

The city's yard waste sites are for city residents only; contractors are not allowed. The mulch bin at the Municipal Service Center is open around the clock, every day.

Fond du Lac School District enrollment

New families in the Fond du Lac School District complete Register and Enroll steps before school begins. Enrollment for grades 4K-8 is at the district office, and for grades 9-12 or STEM at the child's prospective school. District boundary maps show which school a child attends.

A new enrollment is reviewed for approval once the district has checked the enrollment form, proof of residency, immunizations and proof of age.

Fond du Lac Area Transit and Shared Ride Taxi

Fond du Lac Area Transit runs fixed-route bus service, Handivan and Jobtrans. Shared Ride Taxi is a general public, demand-responsive service run through an agreement between Fond du Lac Area Transit and a private taxi operator.

Library cards, pet license tags and property tax payments

Library cards are issued at the downtown library's Main Desk and at the Allen J. Buechel Branch, in person with proof of address. A Fond du Lac library card is issued to anyone with proof of address; living in the city is not required.

Pet license tags are bought in person at City Payments in the City/County Government Center, 160 S. Macy St., with a rabies vaccination certificate.

Property tax payments for city parcels are collected by the Fond du Lac County Treasurer's Office.

Flood zone map and the National Flood Insurance Program

Participation in the National Flood Insurance Program makes federally backed flood insurance available to homeowners, renters and business owners. A flood zone map on the City Mapping page can be searched by address.
