Local services and rules
Moving to Fort Collins: who to call and what the city asks.
The City of Fort Collins enforces its parking rules during events at Colorado State University stadiums with more than 12,000 attendees. Curbside trash, recycling and yard trimmings are collected by private trash haulers, and the city uses Pay-As-You-Throw, so the trash bill is based on trash cart size. Fort Collins is in Larimer County, Colorado, and is the county seat.
RP3 permits, street sweeping and noise limits
The Residential Parking Permit Program (RP3) limits non-resident parking in designated Fort Collins neighborhoods. Most RP3 zones allow non-residents to park once per day per zone for up to two hours. To qualify for an RP3 permit, a person must live, work or provide services within an RP3 zone. Residential permits are valid for one year and expire at the end of the month in which they were issued, or when residency ends.
Residential neighborhoods are swept four times per year under the street sweeping program. On street sweeping days, cars and other obstacles must be moved off the street so the full width of the roadway can be swept. Parking rules in Fort Collins may be enforced at any time.
Noise in residential areas is limited under the Sound in the City rules to 55 dB(A) from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 50 dB(A) from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Poudre River floods and the 24/7 street crews
The Poudre River in Fort Collins is subject to floods from snowmelt and thunderstorms. The City Streets team works around the clock, 24/7, to plow, de-ice and maintain roads.
Fort Collins Utilities and Connexion fiber internet
Fort Collins Utilities supplies electric, water, wastewater and stormwater services in the city.
Utility service is started or stopped through the online Utilities Service Request. The person registering must be the customer and authorized account holder. Utility customer service is at 222 Laporte Ave and answers at 970.212.2900.
Fort Collins Connexion offers residential fiber internet plans.
Republic Services, bulk items and the Timberline Recycling Center
City-contracted trash service covers single family homes and small multi-family residences with seven or fewer units per building inside city limits. For that service, call Republic Services at 970-416-2012. Materials go out by 7 a.m. on trash day. The City-contracted trash program includes two free bulk items per year.
The Timberline Recycling Center takes everyday recyclables free in its Everyday Recyclables Yard, open seven days a week. Its Hard-to-Recycle Materials Yard, open Tuesday-Saturday, takes hard-to-recycle items such as electronics, batteries, paint and motor oil for a fee. The center may close or delay opening in severe weather such as heavy snowfall, ice and high winds.
Poudre School District, Transfort and Poudre Libraries
Poudre School District families can use its Find My School tool to see their boundary (neighborhood) school. Neighborhood school enrollment is year-round, directly with the school.
Transfort is the city bus system, with routes across Fort Collins and regionally.
Poudre Libraries issues an All-Access card at any of its libraries to people who present a photo ID and proof of Colorado address.
NOCO Humane pet licenses, rental registration and the county assessor
In Fort Collins, all cats and dogs four months and older must be licensed annually, and the license is sold through NOCO Humane. License fees are $17 per year for spayed or neutered pets and $60 per year for intact pets. Animals under one year of age pay $17.
Most long-term rental properties in Fort Collins, meaning homes rented out for 30 days or more, must register annually with the City and certify that they meet minimum housing standards.
The Larimer County Assessor values all property, including mobile homes, residential and commercial properties and agricultural land, for property tax purposes.
