Local services and rules
Moving to Fort Smith: who to call and what the city asks.
Fort Smith's parking rules for commercial vehicles on residential streets and properties do not apply to a commercial vehicle while it is moving household goods. The city holds a Citywide Cleanup every April and October, with free manned dumpsters for residents; grass, leaves, brush, tires, hazardous waste and construction debris are not accepted. The city is divided into four wards, and local elections fill the mayor and three at-large directors citywide, with one director elected from each ward.
Street parking and curb rules
Under the city's parking rules, vehicles parked on residential streets must be registered and moved at least every 72 hours. The same page makes it unlawful for occupants of a one- or two-family home to keep more than six vehicles in the front and exterior side yard.
Fort Smith's nuisance ordinances do not allow trash and recycling containers at the street before noon on the day before collection. Carts go at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day.
