Lake Charles is the parish seat of Calcasieu Parish. The city's Green Truck recycling unit moves daily to assigned locations around the city. The city also provides animal services and an adoption center at 5500-A Swift Plant Road, through an agreement with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
City garbage pickup and the 337-491-1220 line
The City's Solid Waste Division collects garbage from residents once a week in city-supplied containers. Household garbage goes in plastic bags in the city-provided container, and the number to call for your pickup date is 337-491-1220.
Furniture and bedding that will not fit in the ninety-eight-gallon container are covered by city trash pickup. Household appliances are picked up too, but the owner must call 337-491-1220 ahead of time first. City trash and yard waste is collected from residences a minimum of two times per month, and white goods must have refrigerants removed.
Parish convenience centers on Swift Plant Road and Post Oak Road
Calcasieu Parish runs two Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers, on Swift Plant Road in Lake Charles and Post Oak Road in Sulphur, for large waste items and sorted recycling. They are free to parish residents with a valid driver's license.
The city does not pick up hazardous waste such as toxic materials and paint; a commercial hauler must be contacted.
Water service deposit and same-day charge
The residential water deposit is $50, and it is waived with a letter of good credit from any other utility company. Same-day water service costs an additional $60 service charge.
