Local services and rules
Moving to Oakdale: who to call and what the city asks.
Oakdale is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, in the eastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. The water supply is treated for perfluorochemicals (PFCs) at a water treatment facility on the Public Works campus at 1900 Hadley Avenue. The city runs an open hauling system: each household contracts directly with a licensed hauler of its choice, and the hauler provides the trash and recycling containers.
Mailboxes, storage containers, overnight parking and construction hours
A temporary storage container is registered with the city through an online form before it arrives.
Between 8 AM and 6 PM, Monday through Saturday, the area in front of any mailbox and ten feet out from each side must stay clear of vehicles.
On-street parking is not permitted from 12 AM to 5 AM, or anytime after two inches (2) of snow or more until streets have been plowed. Snow may not be pushed, shoveled, blown, swept or plowed onto a City street at any time.
Construction using power equipment, including electric, diesel or gas-powered machines, is allowed 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays. Commercial construction is not allowed on Sundays or holidays.
City utility billing and starting water and sewer service
New water and sewer service is set up with the city through the Utility Start Service form or by calling 651-730-2710.
Residential water and sewer accounts are billed quarterly, and commercial accounts monthly. A city utility bill includes charges for water usage, sanitary sewer, community-wide street lighting and storm water management.
Water and sewer service is stopped through an online request form.
Weekly trash contracts and container placement
All properties in Oakdale must be under contract for weekly trash collection.
Containers go on the driveway apron, behind the curb, the night before or on the day of collection before 7AM, and emptied containers come in by the end of collection day. Between collections, trash and recycling containers are stored inside, or behind or within five feet of the front of the house or garage.
The Food Scraps Pickup Program is open to all Oakdale residents. Any licensed trash hauler in the city accepts its bags in trash carts or dumpsters.
Washington County Environmental Centers and the North Yard Waste Site
Washington County Environmental Centers take household hazardous waste, electronics and recyclables. The North Environmental Center is at 6065 Headwaters Pkwy., Forest Lake, and the South Environmental Center is at 4039 Cottage Grove Drive, Woodbury.
Oakdale has no drop-off for leaves or yard waste. The Washington County North Yard Waste Site at the North Environmental Center in Forest Lake accepts leaves, grass brush and tree waste.
Leash, poultry and wildlife feeding rules
Dogs and cats outside their own yards must be leashed or under other physical control, and dogs must be leashed in all City parks and on public land except the Oakdale Bark Park.
Keeping chickens or poultry requires a permit from the Police Department, with no more than six per residence and no roosters.
City ordinance prohibits feeding wildlife such as deer, raccoons, turkey, coyotes, feral cats, fox and skunks, and waterfowl such as geese, ducks, herons, egrets and swans. Birds may be fed from feeders at least five feet above the ground or structure.
Rental housing licenses
The city issues licenses for all rental property in Oakdale. The rental housing license term runs from January 1 to December 31.
District 622 enrollment, Metro Transit, Transit Link and the Gold Line
