Local services and rules
Moving to Sandpoint: who to call and what the city asks.
Utility bill payments are made in person at City Hall, 1123 Lake Street, Monday to Thursday from 7:30am to 5:30pm, except holidays, and they cannot be processed over the phone. Sanitation service is required for city residents. Wastewater from the city flows to a treatment plant on the south end of town, next to the Pend Oreille River. Sandpoint is the county seat of Bonner County.
Overnight parking and the Snow Removal Policy
Downtown on-street parking is not permitted from 2:00 am to 6:00 am. In the 3- and 4-hour downtown zones, overnight parking on streets needs a type B permit.
Crews plow all streets, including residential streets, when it snows two inches or more. Parked vehicles must be cleared of snow within 24 hours of any storm, and vehicles parked against the Snow Removal Policy can be towed at the owner's expense. When snow poses a hazard the City may issue a No Parking Order covering named locations and times.
Resident parking permits for downtown and waterfront lots
Resident parking permits cover daytime parking in all city-owned downtown and waterfront lots. They do not allow overstay of street parking time limits.
A permit application needs the registration for the vehicle, along with proof of residency. Staff at City Hall, 1123 Lake Street, can help with applying.
Waste Management service and county dump stickers
Garbage pickup within the city limits is provided by Waste Management under contract with the City. New residents sign up for service through the City, which assigns the residence a pickup day.
Dump stickers for the county transfer sites are issued by Bonner County Solid Waste.
Weekly refuse, recycling every other week, and blue carts
Regular refuse is picked up weekly and recycling every other week. Containers go at the curb by 6:00 am on the scheduled pickup day. When a holiday falls on a regular collection day, pickup is one day later than usual, and Friday pickups move to Saturday.
Blue 96-gallon recycling carts are provided to city residents who wish to recycle.
LPOSD school enrollment and East Bonner County library cards
New students are enrolled through LPOSD online enrollment, with proof of current residency such as a utility bill, internet bill, mortgage statement or lease agreement.
A library card from the East Bonner County Library District requires photo identification and proof of residency within the district. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to get a library card.
