Local services and rules

Moving to Corvallis: who to call and what the city asks.

Glass in Corvallis is collected separately from the rest of the recycling, once a month, on the regular service day. In the fall, Republic Services collects leaves in addition to the weekly yard waste pickup. On the street, the Municipal Code prohibits parking on any City street for longer than 48 hours, even with a permit.

Right-of-way permits

Right-of-way permits are issued to allow temporary use of the public right-of-way. Public Works handles other types of work in the right-of-way, at (541) 766-6731.

Residential Parking Districts and street sweeping

Corvallis has Residential Parking Districts A, B and C. Parking on the street in them for longer than two hours requires a parking permit. Each residential address is allowed a maximum of three permits.

Permits are valid for one year, from September 1st through August 31st. Parking permits can be purchased online or in person.

Streets are swept twice a month from roughly September through February, when trees are dropping their leaves. The Central Business District is swept weekly, typically on Fridays, but this may vary based on equipment and operator availability.

Water service through City Services Billing

City Services Billing at 541-766-6949, or the online service request, starts or stops water and wastewater service. A request to begin water service must be made at least one business day in advance.

Online requests to start or stop water service require a registered user account and are not fulfilled on weekends or holidays.

Republic Services carts and recycling

Republic Services (541-754-0444) provides residential curbside collection of solid waste and recycling in Corvallis. Commingled recycling is collected weekly on the same day as the solid waste cart. Yard waste and mixed organics carts are collected weekly on the same day as the solid waste cart.

Carts go in the parking lane. If there is no parking lane, they go in the park strip or on the driveway apron, and never in a bike lane.

Drop-off sites and the ReStore

The Republic Services Recycle Center accepts commingled recycling, cardboard, glass, electronics, ink cartridges, compact fluorescent bulbs and scrap metal. Hazardous household waste can be disposed of at quarterly household hazardous waste events.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a donation site for furniture, appliances and construction materials.

Schools, library cards and voter registration

The Corvallis Area Schools page on the City site lists Corvallis School District 509J.

The Corvallis-Benton County Public Library district includes most of Benton County, and residents of the City of Albany are not eligible for the free card. Someone who lives, owns property, works or goes to school in the Library district can get a free card at the Circulation Desk of any location with a card application and proof of address.

Benton County Records and Elections handles voter registration, including for people who have recently moved to Oregon.

Corvallis Transit System and the airport

Corvallis Transit System (CTS) is the city bus service, and it also operates the Philomath Connection. For regional transit options to and from Corvallis, the City points to the Benton Area Transit website at RidetheBAT.com.

The Corvallis Municipal Airport is about 5 miles south of downtown and offers private and corporate aircraft services.

Rental registration, floodplain permits and neighborhood associations

Rental properties in the City of Corvallis are required to register with the City and pay an annual fee.

A Floodplain Development Permit is required for any work within the 100-yr Floodplain boundary.

The City of Corvallis recognizes neighborhood associations that meet its minimum criteria. The City offers an interactive map for finding a neighborhood association.
