Local services and rules
Moving to Danville: who to call and what the city asks.
Curbside recycling in Danville is voluntary: residents who want it opt in with Republic Services on its Danville-only line, 859-368-1140, and Republic Services bills for it. City ordinance also requires grass, weeds and other growth to be kept to no more than 12 inches, and that includes the grass plot between the sidewalk and curb. Boyle County's convenience centers take household waste, up to one pickup-truck load per household per week, but do not accept commercial haulers or junk-removal loads.
Ten feet of open roadway and the loading zone limit
City code says no vehicle may be parked or stopped on a street unless at least ten feet of the roadway width stays open for moving traffic. In a designated loading zone, parking is allowed for up to ten minutes and emergency lights must be blinking.
On Downtown Danville streets, parking is permitted with a 2-hour limit enforced Monday to Friday.
The City collects leaves in the fall. Under the leaf collection rules, residents place leaf piles between the curb and sidewalk, not in the street, not in bags, and not blocking the sidewalk.
Equipment hours and the five-minute idling limit
City code bars running construction, drilling, repair, alteration or demolition equipment between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on weekdays, and between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. on weekends or holidays, within 50 yards of a residential area.
The same code limits a vehicle over 10,000 pounds gross weight rating, or its attached equipment, to five minutes of stationary running in any hour on a public right-of-way within 150 feet of a residential area between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Water, sewer and trash through the Utilities Department
The City's Start Service page is headed for people new to Danville or moving across town, and it is where water, sewer and trash service is applied for. New residents complete the Application for Service and return it to the City of Danville Utilities Department at 445 W Main Street, or by e-mail. Deposits are required before connection. Once the application is processed, the City says to expect connection the next business day.
Each Danville resident is provided one standard trash cart, serviced once a week and billed on the water bill at $14.94 a month. Republic Services handles collection.
Inter-County Energy's membership fee
Inter-County Energy requires a one-time $50 membership fee from those receiving electrical service, and a deposit may also be required.
Bluegrass RIDE and the Downtown Transfer Stop
Bluegrass RIDE runs bus routes in Danville, hourly Monday through Saturday, and all of them connect at the Downtown Transfer Stop at Walnut & 3rd Street.
Boyle County Public Library cards
A new library card at the Boyle County Public Library needs a photo ID and proof of current address. People who live, work or study in Boyle County may get one.
How Boyle County Schools enrolls new students
At Boyle County Schools, each school processes its own new student enrollments and appointments are requested. Enrollment needs proofs of residence, among other documents.
