Moving to Gahanna: who to call and what the city asks.

A pile of move-out trash is not collected and may be subject to additional fees for collection. Drinking water is provided by the City of Columbus, and wastewater from Gahanna is sent to the City of Columbus for treatment. During snow removal, the city clears roadways and bridges and does not return to plow driveway approaches.

Street sweeping and plowed-in vehicles

Street sweeping runs April through November, zone by zone, and aims to reach each area a few times a year. Vehicles parked on the street are asked to be moved on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. when the zone is being swept. The city does not ticket or tow for sweeping.

A vehicle that is plowed in is the owner's responsibility to dig out. Property owners are responsible for driveways, driveway approaches and sidewalks.

Monday or Tuesday trash collection

Refuse, recycling and yard waste collection is contracted to Local Waste Services Ltd. Residents are provided a 95-gallon trash can, and all collections are set out on a single weekly collection day.

Waste collection is on Monday or Tuesday depending on the zone, and the hauler may begin as early as 7 am. Containers go out at the curb or designated location by 6 am on collection day, and no earlier than 5 pm the day before.

New or additional recycling containers are requested from the Department of Public Service at 614-342-4440, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Bulk items and hazardous waste

Bulk items can be set out on the regular waste collection day, following the city's set-out guidelines.

The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) provides household hazardous waste disposal for Franklin County residents at 645 East 8th Avenue, Columbus. AEP Ohio, Gahanna Energy Plus and the utility bill

AEP Ohio delivers electricity to all residents of Gahanna, whichever supplier a resident chooses. Eligible AEP Ohio customers are automatically enrolled in Gahanna Energy Plus, an opt-out community choice aggregation program.

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools enrollment

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools includes the city of Gahanna and parts of Jefferson and Mifflin townships. The district's Welcome Center, at Clark Hall, 380 Granville Street, handles preschool through grade 12 enrollment for students who live within the district's attendance boundaries.

New students enroll online after checking the School Locator. A Welcome Center representative then emails within five business days to complete enrollment.

Rental property registration

Owners of residential rental properties register every two years. Registered rental properties are inspected for compliance with the city's property maintenance code. A new owner of a rental property registers it within 30 days of the transfer of ownership.

Gohanna Shuttle and county offices

The Gohanna Shuttle is an on-demand curb-to-curb service for Gahanna residents aged 65 or older or with disabilities, operating 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Franklin County Board of Elections is the office that provides a resident's ward district information. Health services are contracted through the Franklin County Board of Health.
