Local services and rules
Moving to Grants Pass: who to call and what the city asks.
Retail sales, manufacturing, and storage of fireworks are prohibited within the Grants Pass city limits. Open burning is allowed on properties within the city limits only during nine-day periods each Spring and Fall. A garage or yard sale can be held twice a month, but no more than 6 times in a year.
Street sweeping zones and the weekly Public Works email
Paved residential streets within the city limits are swept by a contracted street sweeper on a set schedule for most of the year. Streets are swept between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Public Works sends a weekly email notification listing the zones to be swept that week.
A parking ticket not paid within 30 days of issuance incurs a late fee and is subject to collections turnover.
Block party permits and the 75% consent rule
A block party permit requires consent from at least 75% of the residents living along the portion of street to be closed. At permitted block parties, no sound amplification is allowed after 10 p.m.
Starting water and sewer service with the City of Grants Pass
Water and sewer service can be applied for by calling the Customer Service office at 541-450-6035. Applicants are asked to provide name, phone number, driver's license or state identification number, last 4 of the social security number, date of birth and previous address for all individuals who will be on the account.
Applicants with less than one year of prior utility service with the City of Grants Pass are charged a minimum deposit for their account type. A letter of credit from a previous utility showing a minimum of one year of good credit history can be provided in place of a deposit.
There is no charge to have the water turned on during field operating hours, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
When a renting tenant establishes an account, the property owner or owner's agent receives notification. For properties without City water service, City service accounts stay in the property owner's name, and a renting tenant cannot set up service there.
Wastewater billing, stormwater rates and temporary off
Wastewater customers are billed monthly by the City of Grants Pass Customer service department. Residential wastewater charges are based on average winter consumption.
The stormwater utility rate is based on the impervious surface of a property.
Water and sewer customers going away for an extended period can request a temporary off.
Yard waste carts, transfer stations and the BottleDrop center
Yard waste can go in a curbside yard waste cart or be taken to a transfer station for a fee. Non-recyclable materials go to the transfer stations.
Collection events for commercial and residential toxic and hazardous waste are held twice a year. Bottles and cans can be redeemed at the Grants Pass BottleDrop Redemption Center at 1040 Rogue River Highway.
Rogue River and Gilbert Creek flooding
Grants Pass is vulnerable to flooding from both the Rogue River and Gilbert Creek. City permits are required to build, fill, or substantially improve buildings or property in the 100-year floodplain.
