Local services and rules

Moving to Richland Hills: who to call and what the city asks.

Richland Hills is in northeast Tarrant County and borders the northeast corner of Fort Worth. Residents voted to withdraw from the Fort Worth Transportation Authority. The city now uses a third-party provider for residential transportation, and residents must be approved by the city before reserving a trip. Garbage is collected on Tuesday and Friday.

Republic Waste Services curb times and landfill access

The city contracts with Republic Waste Services for garbage and recycling service. Residential garbage and recycling service is billed with the water and sewer bill.

Containers go to the curb no earlier than 7 p.m. the evening before collection and no later than 7 a.m. on collection day. They come back in by 11:59 p.m. that day.

Residents may use the Republic Services Landfill at 800 Mosier Valley Rd in Euless. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, is required.

Quarterly bulk pickup and the 4 cubic yard limit

Bulk pickup is held quarterly. Items may be set at the curb no earlier than the Saturday before the week pickup begins and no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled start day. Bulk items go where regular trash is collected.

Total solid waste at regular pickup, including bundled brush, yard waste, fence panels and bulky waste, may not exceed 4 cubic yards.

Utility Billing and Fort Worth water

The city's Utility Billing office sets up customer accounts and handles monthly billing for water service.

To start or stop water service on the same day, all required documents must be provided before 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The city gets most of its water from the City of Fort Worth, with additional supply from city wells. Wastewater treatment is provided by the City of Fort Worth and the Trinity River Authority of Texas.

Richland Hills Public Library and MetroShare

Anyone living in the State of Texas may qualify for a Richland Hills library card by completing an application, and proof of residency is required.

The Richland Hills Public Library belongs to the MetroShare consortium, so cardholders can check out materials at any participating library.

Pet license tags, voter registration and Birdville schools

The city requires dogs and cats four months of age and older to wear a city license tag. To get one, bring proof of a rabies vaccination to the Richland Hills Animal Shelter.

Tarrant County Elections Administration registers eligible voters.

Richland Hills is within the Birdville Independent School District.

Permits, Drainage GIS and the airport

The city requires permits for several types of work, including fences, remodels, driveways and garage sales.

The city's Drainage GIS program lets residents see FEMA information for specific properties, find flooding areas and report flooding.

The city is less than 20 miles from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
