Local services and rules

Moving to Salisbury: who to call and what the city asks.

Salisbury is a city in and the county seat of Wicomico County, Maryland. Single-family homes have trash and recycling collected once a week, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday depending on where the residence is located in the city. Automated collection trucks require standard 95-gallon trash cans, which are bought from the city by calling 410-548-3115, with delivery within 48 hours of purchase.

Parking permits and street rules

The Parking Authority issues parking permits and handles enforcement. Permits for city parking lots are available at the Parking Garage at 111 Circle Avenue or through an online parking portal.

Neighborhoods are swept on the same day as trash, recycling and cardboard collection, between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and not every street is swept every week.

Owners of property next to any street within the city limits are responsible for removing snow from their sidewalks. Sidewalk snow must be removed within 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling. Snow Emergency Routes are plowed regardless of snowfall amount, and residential areas are plowed only when the snow depth exceeds four inches.

Recycle bins and Monday yard waste

Recycle bins are provided by calling 410-548-3177, with a 3 to 5-day delivery window.

Yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, vegetative material and branches) is picked up on Mondays, scheduled through an online form, with a 25 bag maximum per household.

Wicomico County convenience centers

Wicomico County convenience centers accept recyclables, and electronics are accepted only at the Newland Park Landfill location. A permit is needed to dispose of household waste at the centers. All of them except Newland Park are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Water and sewer accounts

Water and sewer bills, account questions and payments go through the Finance Utility Billing Department at 410-548-3115.

Starting service takes a water and sewer application that lists the requested date of service, the building type, the address and the property owner details.

Rental licenses and the Living in Salisbury guide

Owners of rental property within the city limits must obtain a Rental Unit Owners License and register each property they own through the Housing and Community Development Department.

The city publishes a Living in Salisbury guide for people renting or buying a home, with renter tips, help with code violation notices and home-buying resources.

Shore Transit and the Wicomico Public Library

Public bus service in Salisbury is provided by Shore Transit, which serves Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties.

The main location of the Wicomico Public Library is on S. Division St. The library system also has a Centre Branch in the Centre at Salisbury Mall.

Schools and voter registration

Wicomico County Public Schools enrolls students who reside in Wicomico County full time with their legal guardians.

The Wicomico County Board of Elections handles registration of voters, including for Salisbury city elections.
