Local services and rules
Moving to Sioux City: who to call and what the city asks.
Downtown parking meters in Sioux City are free in the evenings and on weekends. All rental units must be registered with the City and renewed every year. Each resident is required to have one solid waste tote, which Gill Hauling provides.
Snow emergency parking and Emergency Snow Routes
During a declared snow emergency, odd/even parking goes into effect throughout Sioux City. No parking is allowed on Emergency Snow Routes, which are marked with a blue sign with a snowflake.
Water, sewer and the City Customer Service Center
The City of Sioux City provides water, sewer, solid waste collection and a storm drain maintenance fee. Renters who want utility service in their own name contact the City Customer Service Center at 712-279-6132, Option 1. The City asks for 7 to 10 days to establish utility service.
The City Customer Service Center is on the first floor of City Hall. It gives information and referrals and is the central point for licensing and bill paying.
Trash, recycling and the Citizen's Convenience Center
Residential trash is collected weekly. Residential recycling is collected every other week, on the same day as trash. Yard waste can go in the regular garbage container all year.
Furniture, electronics and other bulky items can be taken to the Citizen's Convenience Center at 5800 28th Street, or a third party can be hired to remove them. The Citizen's Convenience Center, at the City's former landfill, accepts most items that are not taken curbside or are too large for the residential garbage container.
The household hazardous materials drop-off site takes paint products such as oil paints, spray paints and stains/varnish. The service is for residents, not for businesses and non-profit organizations.
Enrolling a child in the Sioux City Community Schools
Enrollment starts with a call to 712-279-6075 to schedule an appointment with the Central Registration Office at 627 4th St. The appointment calls for a birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency.
Sioux City Transit System
The Sioux City Transit System serves Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, South Sioux City and North Sioux City. Fares may be paid in cash (exact amount only), with tokens, daily passes or monthly passes.
Sioux City Public Library cards
Residents apply for a library card at any Sioux City Public Library location. A valid photo ID is needed when applying.
Pet licenses
City pet licenses are valid for one year and expire on December 31st of the license year. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required before a pet license is issued or renewed. City Code allows 3 pets per residential unit, but no more than two of the same species.
Woodbury County Assessor and Auditor offices
The Woodbury County Assessor office, on the fifth floor of the courthouse at 620 Douglas St., has property tax credit and exemption applications online. The Woodbury County Auditor office handles elections, including voter registration.
