Local services and rules

Moving to Texarkana: who to call and what the city asks.

Texarkana, Texas is a twin city on the border of Texas and Arkansas, and the Texas side is in Bowie County. Selling, possessing or shooting fireworks inside the city limits is against the law. A burn ban is in effect at all times inside the city by ordinance, and only those with a valid burn permit may burn.

Unposted streets and fire response

Streets without a posted limit have a maximum speed of 30 MPH under city ordinance.

The Texarkana Fire Department responds only within the city limits of Texarkana, Texas unless another department with primary response authority requests help.

Waste Management, bulk pickup and the New Boston Landfill

Garbage and recycling are collected by Waste Management under an exclusive city contract. Residential and commercial waste collection happens weekly.

Residents may place four cubic yards of bulk waste at the curb once a month with their carts. Accepted items include furniture, mattresses and household appliances; paint, tires and items over 200 lbs are not accepted. Bulk waste beyond the four cubic yard allotment can be removed by arrangement with the hauler, with payment arrangements made when the pick-up is scheduled.

Texarkana residents using the New Boston Landfill show proof of residency with their most recent water bill and a driver's license with the same address.

Electricity, gas, water and sewer

AEP SWEPCO is the primary electricity provider for most of Texarkana and its surrounding areas. Summit Utilities provides natural gas service in the Texarkana, Texas area.

Water and sewer service comes from Texarkana Water Utilities, operated by the City of Texarkana, USA. The office is at 801 Wood Street and is open Monday through Friday for bill payment. Tap water comes from two sources, Lake Wright Patman and Lake Millwood.

Pet registration and the five-pet limit

All dogs, cats and ferrets living inside the city limits must be registered with the city, by bringing a copy of the pet's rabies certificate to the Environmental Services Unit at 220 Texas Blvd Room 301.

The city allows five common household pets of any combination, not counting animals under four months of age.

Schools, T-Line, the airport and voter registration

Families not sure which school district or zone an address is in are asked to call the TISD Welcome Center.

T-Line provides public transportation connecting Texarkana (AR & TX), Wake Village and Nash.

Texarkana Regional-Webb Field (TXK) is a commercial service airport in southwest Arkansas, operated by the Texarkana Airport Authority.

In-person voter registration is handled by the Bowie County Elections Administrator at 710 James Bowie Drive, New Boston, Texas.
