Local services and rules
Moving to Wichita Falls: who to call and what the city asks.
Wichita Falls enforces year-round watering restrictions: no sprinkler watering from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, while hand watering can be done anytime. Residents of the city can also register a storm shelter online so emergency crews can check on them after a storm.
Front-yard parking and weed rules
City code does not allow parking on unpaved or grassy surfaces in the front yard or exterior side yard, unless it is the primary driveway serving the residence. The same code defines weeds as growth more than nine inches in height, and homeowners and tenants must mow adjacent right-of-ways to the center of alleys.
Trash days north and south of Kell Freeway
Curbside trash pickup is twice a week. Homes north of Kell Freeway are collected Monday and Thursday; homes south of Kell Freeway are collected Tuesday and Friday. Containers should be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the assigned collection day, and the Sanitation office at (940) 761-7977 answers questions about a pickup day.
Green curbside organics carts for yard and kitchen waste can be ordered by calling 761-7977 for a monthly fee, and they are collected every Wednesday. Drop-off recycling for newspaper and glass is available at several city fire stations and at United Market Street on Kell Blvd.
Bulky waste pickup
Curbside bulky waste pickup covers furniture such as couches and mattresses, and appliances such as washers, dryers and stoves. It is requested from the Sanitation Office at 940-761-7977, for a trip charge plus a loading fee by the minute.
Bulk waste must be at the curb and at least five feet from any horizontal obstruction and 13.5 feet from any vertical obstruction. Appliances must be separated from other waste.
The Transfer Station and the Landfill on Wiley Road
City residents can dump household waste from their primary residence at the Transfer Station free of charge with a valid ID and active account information. Roofing shingles, dirt, concrete and construction debris are not accepted there but are taken at the Landfill.
The City Landfill at 10984 Wiley Road is free for dumping from a primary residence with proof of residency. It does not accept oils and oil filters, hazardous materials or vehicle tires. It can, however, accept small amounts of household hazardous waste produced by a household, and paint must be dried out before it goes in the regular trash.
Transfer Station and Landfill hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The $105.00 water deposit, library cards and the appraisal district
The residential water service deposit is $105.00 for a single-family dwelling.
Wichita Falls Public Library cards are free to people who live in or own property within the city limits. A photo ID is required, and mail showing a Wichita Falls address if the ID shows another address.
Wichita Appraisal District appraises property in Wichita County and handles the administration of exemptions; its office is at 600 Scott Ave Ste. 300.
Falls Ride, school enrollment and the airport
The Wichita Falls Transit System, Falls Ride, runs a route deviation and demand response service in which buses deviate up to 3/4 mile from the regular route. Service is Monday to Friday 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; reservations are taken at 940-761-7433.
Students new to Wichita Falls Independent School District (WFISD) enroll through its online New Student Enrollment.
The City of Wichita Falls Regional Airport provides the commercial link to the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and handles charter and private aircraft.
Dog and cat licenses
All dogs and cats four months of age or over must be licensed with the city. A current rabies vaccination is required, and dogs must wear the city license at all times. Each home may have no more than a combination of 4 dogs or cats unless the resident applies for a special permit.
CodeRED alerts and flood maps
CodeRED emergency alerts are free to all residents, and residents and businesses within Wichita Falls are encouraged to sign up.
The Engineering Division keeps copies of flood maps and elevation certificates; the number is 940-761-7477. The maps are on display in Memorial Auditorium, Room 402, and the Wichita Falls Public Library has copies available for inspection.
