Wood River is a city in Madison County, Illinois. Landscape and yard waste is not collected with regular trash pick-up. Outdoor burning of leaves, plants, shrubs and small limbs on private property is allowed on Wednesday and Saturday only, from October 1st through April 30th each year.
Water, sewer, electricity and gas
Water and sewer service is provided by the City, and applications for new service are made through the Finance Department in City Hall at 111 N. Wood River Ave. Someone must be at the location during a new water service connection in case of a leak or other unexpected emergency.
The Finance Department also coordinates utility billing for water, sewer and trash services.
Water main, sewer, street maintenance and traffic sign concerns are reported to Public Services at (618) 251-3122.
Ameren Illinois supplies electricity and natural gas to residents.
Republic Services trash and recycling
Republic Services is contracted to remove trash and recycling for residents. When a holiday falls on a regular pick-up day, service is provided the following day.
New trash and recycling service is applied for through the Finance Department in City Hall at 111 N. Wood River Ave.
Leaves, branches and the City Dump
Leaves raked to the curb are generally picked up from October until December. After a storm, the street department hauls away fallen branches placed at the front curb.
Grass and leaves are accepted at the City Dump at 400 Smith Ct. in EnviroTech Park on Monday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm.
The same City Dump takes furniture and other large items from residents.
Kennel licenses, garage sale permits and occupancy inspections
A kennel license, required for more than 2 dogs, is applied for through the City Clerk office. Garage sale permits are applied for through the same office, which also provides information and assistance with voter registration.
Occupancy inspections and permits are handled by the Building & Zoning Department.
Wood River Public Library and the school districts
Wood River Public Library, at 326 E. Ferguson, is a member of the Illinois Heartland Library System and the SHARE automated consortium.
