Moving to Hingham: who to call and what the city asks.

Hingham is in Plymouth County. Connecting a sump pump to the sewer system is strictly prohibited. Disposing of recyclable materials as household rubbish in the Transfer Station compactors is unlawful. Box trucks and utility trailers larger than 5x9 are prohibited from the Transfer Station.

Transfer Station hours and permits

The Department of Public Works runs the Recycling Area and Trash Transfer Facility on Sam Ryder Road off Hobart Street. The Transfer Station is open to Hingham residents and certain small businesses with permits. Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, excluding holidays.

Household rubbish stickers and other permits are issued at the Public Works office with proof of residency.

Bulky items, mattresses, refrigerators and propane tanks

Bulky items such as furniture and rugs go in separate open top trailers at the Transfer Station. Mattresses and box springs are accepted at the Transfer Station from Hingham residents with a valid transfer station sticker.

Refrigerator doors must be removed before the appliance is disposed of at the Transfer Station. Used propane tanks go in the marked trailer at the Transfer Station.

Oil based paints, insecticides, gasoline and paint thinner cannot be disposed of at the Transfer Station.

Parking a vehicle overnight on any public way is not allowed, especially during snow season, November 15 to April 15.
