Scituate is a seacoast town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, on the South Shore, midway between Boston and Plymouth. The Town can flood from high tides, storm surge, large waves and heavy precipitation. All building permit applications in the Town are online only, with plans and supporting documents uploaded to the application.

Highway Division, Water Division and Public Works

The Highway Division handles street sweeping and snow plowing and sanding. The Water Division handles water and sewer billing, water turn-offs and turn-ons, and installs new water meters. The Department of Public Works operates the Wastewater and Water Treatment plants and the Transfer Station.

Transfer Station bags, sticker and days closed

The Transfer Station accepts household garbage only in Pay-As-You-Throw blue bags. The blue bags are sold at the Transfer Station and at several local stores. Scituate residents need a valid Transfer Station sticker on their vehicle to use the Transfer Station. The Transfer Station is closed Wednesdays, Thursdays and holidays.

Textiles and waste oil at the Transfer Station

Clean, dry textiles go in the bins just after the recycling building at the Transfer Station. Fuels may not go in the waste oil container at the Transfer Station.

Scituate Public Schools run local schools from Pre-K to 12, and the Town is a member of a regional vocational district, South Shore Regional Vocational School. The Scituate Town Library offers museum passes, funded by the Friends of the Scituate Town Library, to Scituate residents who hold a library card. The assessors' office administers property tax assessment for the Town.
