Local services and rules

Moving to Kingsville: who to call and what the city asks.

Keeping rabbits, horses, chickens, goats and certain other animals within the city limits requires a permit. Kingsville sends emergency alerts by tone alert radio and automated phone call, and a resident with an unlisted number can call the Emergency Management Coordinator at (361) 595-8056 to be added.

Abandoned vehicles after 48 hours

A motor vehicle that has remained illegally on public property for more than 48 hours counts as abandoned under the city code.

Utility Office and roll-out cart service

New water and sewer service is requested in person at the Utility Office, 200 E. Kleberg Avenue, open Monday through Friday 8:15 am to 5:00 pm. The office asks for a lease, social security card, valid I.D., and a water utility deposit.

Garbage is collected from a roll-out cart, which must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day. The residential base rate is $21.00 a month for a 90-gallon roll-out, and each additional 90-gallon roll-out is $21.00 a month.

A roll-out damaged by overloading (maximum 200 lbs.) is replaced at the customer's expense of $90. A missed roll-out can be reported to the Solid Waste Collections Division at 361-595-8040, option 2.

Brush collection, the Recycling Center and the landfill

The city collects brush by zone on a published schedule. Brush goes next to the curb the weekend before the zone's start date, and the limit is two piles per customer.

The Recycling Center is at 1300 E. Corral and takes aluminum, corrugated cardboard, paper and plastic.

The landfill is open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the last drop off at 3:30 p.m.

Kingsville ISD registration and non-resident library cards

Kingsville ISD requires a student's birth certificate, social security card, immunization record and proof of residency to register. Online registration must be completed before the first day of school.

The public library is at 220 North 4th Street, and its non-resident library cards are $8.00 per person annually, or $30.00 for a family of four.

Rabies shots, the four-animal limit and the leash rule

All dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies by 4 months of age, boosted 12 months later, then vaccinated every year by a licensed veterinarian.

A residence within the city limits may house no more than a combined total of 4 animals over the age of 4 months without sterilization and a permit for the additional animals.

Dogs must be on a leash and accompanied by the owner when off the owner's property.
