Local services and rules

Moving to Marion: who to call and what the city asks.

Marion is a mandatory filing municipality for city income tax, which covers businesses doing work in the city and individuals who live and/or work within the city limits, and the city requires all of those people to register. Marion County Sanitary Sewer payments go to the Marion County Sanitary Engineer at 222 W Center St., not through the City's online payment service. The City also cannot accept tires through its normal sanitation and recycling program. Marion is in Marion County, Ohio, and is its county seat.

Snow plowing order and downtown parking

Marion plows arterial streets and overpasses first, then collector residential streets, then residential streets, and alleys last. After a large snow, usually over 4 inches, crews try to haul snow out of the downtown area, which allows parking on the downtown streets.

Ohio Edison, Columbia Gas of Ohio and Utility Billing

Electricity in Marion is delivered by Ohio Edison, and residents may choose their own supplier of the electricity component. Natural gas is delivered by Columbia Gas of Ohio, and residents may choose their own supplier of the natural gas component.

The City of Marion Utility Billing Department bills and collects for sewer, storm and sanitation. Its office is at City Hall, 233 West Center Street. Utility Billing has a Request for Change of Service form, used by a property owner to change service for landlord/tenant billing purposes.

Curb rules for trash, recycling and yard waste

Under the City's sanitation policies, trash, recycling and yard waste must be at the curb by 7 am on the scheduled collection day, and no more than twelve hours before it. Weekly pick-up is limited to six cans per resident unit, and excessive amounts are subject to additional charges. Paint is not accepted with regular garbage unless it is totally dried up or filled with sand.

The Yard Waste Program limits yard waste to 3 bags and/or 3 bundles of limbs or branches per residence per week during the yard waste season.

A property unoccupied for at least three consecutive calendar months can have sanitation service suspended. The form must be submitted to Utility Billing 30 days in advance.

Special pickups for appliances and furniture

Large appliances and furniture are collected as a special pickup, and mattresses and furniture must be free from moisture. Special pickups are subject to additional fees not included in the basic collection rate.

DKMM lists Sims Brother's at 1011 S. Prospect Street in Marion as an appliance recycling location certified to remove freon.

Free drop-offs and hazardous waste appointments
