Moving to Secaucus: who to call and what the city asks.

Secaucus is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey. Recycling is collected on the second of a household's two weekly garbage days: a Monday and Thursday garbage route has Thursday recycling, and a Tuesday and Friday route has Tuesday recycling. Leaves are collected every Wednesday from September 1st through December 31st. They are bagged and placed curbside on Tuesday evenings, and they are not to go in garbage cans.

Parking for Residents Only streets and phone-app meters

On streets designated "Parking for Residents Only", a vehicle must display a valid residential parking sticker to park beyond the authorized time. Meters accept payment through a phone app, using the zone number on the meter signs. Posted restrictions such as residential parking, street cleaning and time limits still apply at the meters.

Recycling materials, buckets and plastic bags

Secaucus has a mandatory, town-wide recycling program for mixed paper, glass, aluminum, tin and plastic, handled by the Department of Public Works. Recycling buckets for glass, aluminum, tin and plastic are available from the DPW garage at 370 Secaucus Road.

Plastic bags are not to be used to hold recycled paper, glass, aluminum or tin. Items bagged that way can be left at the curb, and the property maintenance officer can issue a summons.

Furniture pickup, tree parts and the DPW compound

The Department of Public Works picks up discarded furniture, appliances and debris from small home improvement projects by appointment, by calling (201) 330-2080. No contractor material is accepted. Tree parts are collected every Wednesday, but the DPW must be called to schedule the pickup.

Containers for used motor oil, spent oil filters and antifreeze are at the DPW compound. The compound is open for recycling seven days a week from 7am to 2:30pm.

Wastewater and the tax offices

The Secaucus Municipal Utilities Authority is responsible for processing all wastewater generated within Secaucus. The Tax Collector's Office handles billing and collection of property taxes. Questions about a tax assessment go to the Tax Assessor's office.

School pre-registration and town shuttles

Secaucus Public Schools takes new students through online pre-registration. After that, the family calls the school or the district office to schedule registration intake.

Town shuttles include a Morning Express Shuttle, a Community Shuttle Bus to Secaucus Junction, an Xchange Shuttle and a medical escort service.
