Moving to Taylor: who to call and what the city asks.

Taylor is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, on the Lackawanna River southwest of Scranton. The former Taylor Colliery site left acid mine drainage and dangerous subsidence in the borough. Earned income tax for borough residents is collected by Berkheimer Tax Administrator, not by the elected Tax Collector.

Recycling weeks and the recycling can

Recycling alternates by week: cans, glass and plastic one week, paper and cardboard the other. Borough recycling is hauled each week on a set weekday that depends on the street.

Borough residents get a recycling can at the DPW Facility by showing proof of address. Recycling can also be placed in open containers other than the traditional recycling cans, with a capacity of 35 gallons or less. Cardboard is broken down and bundled before it goes to the curb for pickup.

Monday yard waste pickup

Grass clippings and leaves are picked up on Mondays. They must be in open topped containers or yard bags that weigh no more than 35 pounds.

Small tree and shrubbery branches are also picked up on Mondays, when tied in bundles.

Snow, sidewalks and saved parking spaces

Borough residents have 24 hours after the snow stops to clear snow and ice from their sidewalks.

It is illegal in the borough to deposit, throw or discard snow, slush or other obstructions into the public streets and right-of-way. Placing objects to save or protect parking spaces in front of properties is illegal in the borough as well.

Riverside School District and COLTS route 32

Riverside School District serves Taylor, and new students register by appointment.

COLTS route 32 runs on weekdays between the Lackawanna Transit Center in Scranton and Taylor Commons.

Library, polling places and the TNR program

Taylor Community Library is at 710 South Main Street in the borough.

Taylor has voting precincts W-01 through W-05, with W-01 at the borough building on Union St.

Residents register with the borough TNR program to sterilize, vaccinate for rabies and ear tip feral or stray cats.
