Local services and rules

Moving to Wallingford: who to call and what the city asks.

Wallingford is in northern New Haven County, Connecticut. The Wallingford Electric Division provides electric energy to customers in Wallingford and a portion of Northford. The town's disposal site takes refuse only in cars, vans, pickup trucks and small utility trailers.

The Resident Disposal Center at 25 Pent Road

Wallingford residents can use the Resident Disposal Center at 25 Pent Road. Residents may deliver their own residential refuse there, and commercial refuse is not accepted.

Bulky waste, oversized household items and construction and demo debris can be brought to the center, where loads are weighed.

Unwanted electronics can also be brought to the center, for Wallingford residents only.

Recycling, Public Works pickups and HazWaste Central

Residents can drop recycling off at the Recycling Center, and curbside collection is also available from private haulers.

Public Works runs spring brush, fall bagged leaf and Christmas tree (January) pickup programs. It also plows, salts and removes snow, and clears snow from Town-owned sidewalks and parking lots.

Household hazardous waste such as pesticides, cleaning solvents and gasoline goes to HazWaste Central, 90 Sargent Drive, New Haven, on Saturday mornings from mid-May to the end of October.

Wallingford Water and Sewer Divisions

The Water and Sewer Divisions provide water and sewer services to a large portion of the Town of Wallingford. Water and sewer billing, customer service and account questions go to 203-949-2660.

Dog licenses and voter registration

Dogs must be licensed annually between June 1 and June 30. All dogs 6 months and older must be licensed; a new dog needs proof of spay or neuter and proof of rabies vaccination from the vet.

The Registrar of Voters, at 45 South Main Street, Room 211, processes mail-in, online and in-person registrations.

Tax Collector, Assessor's Office and rental housing inspection

The Tax Collector is responsible for billing and collection of all municipal taxes. The Assessor's Office is at 45 South Main Street, Room 101, phone 203-294-2001.

The Building, Rental Housing, & Blight Department offers an application for rental housing code inspection.

Wallingford Public Schools, the library card desk and airports

Wallingford Public Schools serves the town; new students register online and families provide required documents showing age and residency.

To get a library card, residents go to the Main Borrower Services Desk with photo ID and proof of Wallingford residency.

Air service is available at Tweed New Haven Airport, about thirteen miles away, and Bradley International Airport, approximately 40 miles north off Interstate 91.
