Local services and rules
Moving to Williamsport: who to call and what the city asks.
Water and sewer in Williamsport come from two separate bodies, the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) and the Williamsport Sanitary Authority (WSA), which share an office at 253 West Fourth Street. Curbside recycling is collected only once a month, on a schedule the county sets for Williamsport, South Williamsport and Loyalsock Township.
Monthly recycling and the subscription option
Single stream collection, where all recyclables go in one tote, is only available through a subscription with a waste hauler.
The Lycoming County Transfer Station on West Third Street
The Lycoming County Transfer Station is at 1475 West Third Street in Williamsport and serves residents of Williamsport and surrounding municipalities. It no longer takes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners or dehumidifiers.
The county landfill at 447 Alexander Drive in Montgomery
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers go to the county landfill at 447 Alexander Drive in Montgomery. TVs, computers and computer accessories are not taken at the Transfer Station either; residents can recycle them at no cost at the landfill location.
Water and sewer service forms and rates
The authorities' service forms are printed and returned by mail, e-mail or fax. A new service application is for a property where water or sewer is not yet established, and the WMWA office at 570-323-6140 completes it with you. Where a property already has water and sewer and only the owner changes, the authorities use a separate Change of Owner form.
From July 1, 2026 the water rate is $8.52 per thousand gallons, plus a monthly service fee of $3.50. The sanitary (sewer) rate is $14.98 per thousand gallons, plus a monthly service fee of $3.50.
