Local services and rules

Moving to Addison: who to call and what the city asks.

The village of Addison, in DuPage County, sits in two townships: the part east of Rohlwing Road/Illinois Route 53 is in Addison Township, and the part west of it is in Bloomingdale Township. Short-term rentals are prohibited in the Village of Addison and are considered a nuisance.

Overnight and snow parking on Village streets

Parking on Village streets is prohibited from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. and violators are cited. Residents who need to park on the street overnight can ask for special parking permission.

After a snowfall of two inches or more, parking is prohibited on posted snow routes until snow removal is done. After a snowfall of four inches or more, parking is prohibited on all streets until snow removal is done, and violators' cars are towed at the owner's expense.

Commercial vehicles and dumpsters

Commercial vehicles and contractor equipment may not be parked or stored in a residential district, other than for loading and unloading of household belongings, deliveries or service calls.

A dumpster must be rented through the Village's contracted waste hauler, Republic Services, at 708/345-7050.

Republic Services garbage, carts and recycling

Weekly garbage service comes from the village's contracted waste hauler, Republic Services, with unlimited pickup on a set weekday, Monday through Friday, depending on the section of the village. Republic Services supplies two-wheeled waste carts (toters) to residents, and using them is not mandatory. Refuse may go out at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection, and containers must be taken in by midnight after collection day.

Curbside recycling is collected with the regular refuse on normal garbage days and should not exceed 80 pounds. Landscape waste pickup runs from April through November, on normal garbage days.

Appliances and branches at the curb

Large household appliances (refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, washers and dryers) can go to the curb, and residents are encouraged to call Republic Services at 708/345-7050 so they are picked up on the regular garbage day.

Branch pickup runs once a month from April through November, village-wide, for branches placed on the parkway by the Sunday before pickup week.

The bimonthly water bill and the rental license

The village bills water bimonthly, and the bill also covers garbage pickup and sewer service. To set up a water account, a resident must come to Village Hall with a valid Driver's License or Government Issued State I.D. and an additional form of identification, and complete an application. A renter must also bring a copy of the lease.

Every dwelling not occupied by the owner where rent is charged needs a Residential Rental License each year; the license year runs May 1 to April 30.

Schools, the library card and Pace Dial-A-Ride

Addison Elementary School District 4 runs elementary buildings, a primary center and a junior high. Addison Trail High School is part of DuPage High School District 88.

Residents of incorporated Addison can sign up for an Addison Public Library card. The card needs a photo ID with the current address, or another item from the library's proof-of-address list.

Pace Dial-A-Ride (800-713-7445) operates within Addison and transfers to connecting services; reservations are accepted 1 day in advance.

Registering to vote at Village Hall or a township office

Voter registrations are accepted at the Village Clerk's Office at Village Hall, and at Addison or Bloomingdale Township. DuPage County Elections is at 630/407-5600.
