Moving to Schaumburg: who to call and what the city asks.

Schaumburg is a village in Cook and DuPage counties in Illinois. LRS collects yard waste from April 1 through the second full week in December, and live Christmas trees are collected at the curb during January at no charge.

LRS carts and collection day

LRS is the exclusive residential provider for curbside waste, recycling and yard waste for homes in the Village of Schaumburg. Each home receives two carts, one for waste and one for recycling, at no cost. Carts come in 35-gallon, 64-gallon and 96-gallon sizes.

Recycling is collected weekly on the same day as waste, and the recycling cart is free. Garbage, recycling and yard waste go out at the curb on collection day by 7 a.m.

Bulk items, mattresses and appliances

Up to 2 bulk items are collected with the regular pickup if each is under 50 pounds and under 2 cubic yards. Mattresses and box springs are collected at the curb when they are wrapped in plastic.

Major appliances such as ovens and refrigerators are collected on request. Residents call LRS for a date and a quote, and the removal is billed separately.

The Schaumburg Township building has an outdoor Drug Takeback Box, an official Cook County Sheriff's Office collection site, for expired or unused medications. The box takes no liquids or syringes.

School District 54 registration and boundary search

School District 54 offers online registration for students entering kindergarten through eighth grade. It also has a Boundary Search Tool where a family enters an address to find the neighborhood elementary or junior high school. Families having trouble can call (847) 357-5104.

The Schaumburg Township Transportation Department runs door-to-door rides for seniors (age 55+) and people with disabilities (age 18+) who live in Schaumburg Township. Riders must register first.

Schaumburg Township District Library cards

Library cards from the Schaumburg Township District Library are free for adults and children who live in its service area. A resident can search an address on the library site to check eligibility.

A card can be had in person at any library location with a current photo ID, or online. If the photo ID lacks the current address, one proof of residency, such as a utility bill, bank statement or lease or mortgage statement, is needed.

The Cook County Clerk oversees voter registration for all of suburban Cook County. Cook County residents may register to vote in person with a deputy registrar in the Schaumburg Township Clerk office.
