Moving to Brookeville: who to call and what the city asks.

Brookeville is in Montgomery County, and everyone living within the Town boundaries is a resident of both the Town and the County. The area around the Town is also called Brookeville and may have Brookeville mailing addresses, but those residents are not residents of the Town.

Snow plowing and sidewalk clearing

The Town provides trash, recycling and snow removal services to residents inside the Town boundaries. The Town contracts a snow plowing service for North, South, Water, the eastern part of Market and the paved section of Church Streets. No plowing begins until 4 inches of snow has fallen on the streets.

The Maryland State Highway Administration clears Georgia Avenue (Maryland Route 97), which is High Street and western Market Street in the Town. Residents and businesses with abutting sidewalks must clear their sidewalks, driveways and entrances within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.

Thursday trash and Wednesday recycling

Trash goes to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Thursday. Recyclables (mixed paper, plastic and glass) go to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The 90 gallon wheeled recycle bin is for paper only. A 21 gallon bin takes plastic bottles, containers, tubs, cans, glass bottles and jars, and aluminum foil products.

Household hazardous waste at the Shady Grove drop-off

Montgomery County residents can take household hazardous waste to the drop-off in the Recycling Area of the Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station. The program is open to Montgomery County residents with home-generated hazardous waste, and patrons must provide proof of residency. The drop-off is open during the hours of the Shady Grove Transfer Station.

Montgomery County Public Schools enrollment

Montgomery County Public Schools assigns students to a school by the address where the student lives. Registration for a new student takes place at the school the child will attend, with proof of age, the legal identity of the parent or guardian, residency and immunizations. Required immunizations must be completed within 20 days of registration.

Library cards, pet license tags and Town elections

Montgomery County Public Libraries issues cards at any branch; apply in person with a photo ID and proof of address.

Montgomery County requires dogs and cats over 4 months of age to wear current rabies and pet license tags. The rabies tag from a veterinarian does not count as the county license.

Anyone registered to vote in Montgomery County can vote in Town elections; others may register with the Election Supervisor before the election.
