Local services and rules

Moving to Everett: who to call and what the city asks.

A dumpster or POD permit application must be filed in person at the Engineering Department at City Hall, 484 Broadway, and must also be authorized by the Fire Chief and the Chief of Police or their designees. Mattresses and box springs must be recycled: the first one costs $70.00 and each additional one $45.00, paid in cash at the Collector's Office, with a maximum of 3 per pickup. Using furniture or objects to reserve a parking spot (a space saver) is prohibited by City ordinance.

Street sweeping signs, snow bans and the residential parking sticker

Every city street has posted signs showing its sweeping days and times.

During a declared snow emergency, parking is prohibited on the listed main arteries, and on secondary streets vehicles move to the side the City names for that season's snow ban. Cars on the wrong side or on main arteries may be ticketed and towed.

Residents can apply for a residential parking sticker online or by visiting the Parking Clerk at City Hall. During snow season, residents with a valid Residential Parking Sticker may park in City municipal lots during a snow ban, and must remove the vehicle immediately after the ban is lifted.

National Grid, Empower Everett and the MWRA

National Grid is the utility that delivers electricity, maintains the power lines and handles billing and outages in Everett. The City also runs a bulk electricity purchasing program, Empower Everett, that does not replace the utility.

Drinking water reaches Everett from the MWRA at 5 locations in the city, and the City's wastewater system runs into the MWRA's wastewater system.

All water and sewer bill payments are collected by the Collector's Office at 484 Broadway, Rm. 13, or by credit card on 617-394-2240.

Trash days, recycling barrels and the yard waste sticker

Trash pickup in Everett happens on different days depending on the street, and the City publishes a schedule to look up your collection day.

Residents order recycling bins by calling 311, and the DPW delivers them. The barrel goes curbside by 6 a.m.

Yard waste is collected every other week, on a day set by street. A yard waste sticker is available at the Constituent Services desk on the first floor of Everett City Hall (484 Broadway).

The Parent Information Center and the NOBLE library card

Everett Public Schools runs a Parent Information Center that is located at Everett City Hall, 484 Broadway, rather than at the Administration Building at 121 Vine St. Its phone is 617-544-6955.

Everett Public Libraries give a free library card to anyone with a photo I.D. and proof of address. Patrons have access to all of the libraries in the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE).
