Moving to Farmville: who to call and what the city asks.

Farmville is a town in Prince Edward County, with a small part in Cumberland County, and the Town takes property assessments from both counties. Town ordinances do not allow household furniture and appliances to be kept outside of a residence. Inoperative vehicles cannot be openly kept on property within the Town of Farmville.

Residential parking decals and the Farmville Area Bus

Residential parking decals are required on streets designated Resident Permit Parking Only. Each address is limited to four decals, and rental properties need proof of residency.

The Town runs the Farmville Area Bus, a fixed-route transit service seven days a week, with the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and Longwood University. The Farmville Area Bus also operates Prince Edward County Transit (PERT), which serves the Meherrin/Green Bay and Prospect/Pamplin areas on alternating weekdays.

Farmville Regional Airport (FVX) is 5 miles northwest of the town and has a runway length of 4,400 feet.

Town trash cans, recycling days and brush pickup

The Public Works Department collects garbage using a Town-provided 90-gallon trash can. New residents contact Public Works to make sure garbage collection is set up. Furniture, carpet, appliances and mattresses are not picked up with regular refuse.

The Town provides a voluntary curbside recycling program for residents and businesses. Pickup for residents living on Main Street and to the east is on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. Pickup for residents living west of Main Street is on the 1st and 3rd Thursday. Pickup for residents on the Cumberland County side is on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday.

Town residents request brush pickup from Public Works by Friday for the following Monday.

County landfill, convenience centers and used motor oil

Prince Edward County residents may take bagged residential waste and household goods, such as bulky furniture, to the County landfill. The Prince Edward County solid waste convenience centers are open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Prince Edward County takes recycling at its manned convenience centers, including newspaper, plastic types 1-7, cardboard, scrap metal, tires and electronics.

The Public Works Department of the Town accepts used motor oil at 814 Longwood Avenue.

Treasurer office, Dominion Virginia Power and voter registration

Water and sewer are provided through the Town of Farmville. To set up a new service or to change the name on an existing bill, call the Treasurer office.

Dominion Virginia Power is the electricity supplier for Farmville residents.

Voter registration is done through Prince Edward County, by way of the County Registrar.

Dog licenses and Animal Control

All dogs in Prince Edward County that are four months or older must have a current rabies vaccination and a county dog license. Cats of that age need a rabies vaccination but no license. Residents within the Farmville town limits contact the Farmville Animal Control Department.

Prince Edward County Public Schools and the library on West Third Street

Prince Edward County Public Schools serve the Town. The public schools are just south of Farmville off Route 15 South on Zion Hill Road.

The Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, at 1303 W Third Street, is the local branch and headquarters of Central Virginia Regional Library.
