A road closure permit in the City of Fort Myers comes from the Engineering office at 239-321-7445. Lee County runs toll plazas at the Midpoint, Cape Coral and Sanibel bridges.
The Utility Billing Payment Center and the $175 deposit
The City of Fort Myers takes new water service applications online or in person at the Utility Billing Payment Center at 2925 Dr Martin Luther King Blvd Jr Blvd. A new residential utility account needs a $175 deposit for water, sewer, and trash service.
Trash, recycling and yard waste collection
The Solid Waste Division provides trash collection where available in the city. It collects garbage, single-stream recycling and yard waste once a week and takes it to the Lee County Resource Recovery Facility. Residential recycling is collected on the same day as garbage.
Carts should be at the curb the night before collection and no later than 6:30 a.m. on collection day. Yard waste collection includes piles up to 10 cubic yards; larger piles cost extra.

The city does not collect household chemicals or electronics. Lee County disposes of them at no charge at 6441 Topaz Ct. in Fort Myers. The Lee County household chemical waste site on Topaz Court takes latex paint, aerosol cans, pesticides, pool chemicals and propane tanks.
