Local services and rules

Moving to Punta Gorda: who to call and what the city asks.

Punta Gorda is the county seat of Charlotte County and the only incorporated area within the county. City sanitation service covers addresses inside the city service area, and not every address with a 33950 ZIP code is inside the City limits.

Utility bills held in the owner's name

Water, wastewater and refuse service are billed together on one monthly utility bill, depending on the number of City services available at the property. Accounts are held in the name of the property owner only. Bills can be mailed in care of a tenant when the owner submits a written, signed request.

Bills go out for occupied and vacant properties alike, and each is due within twenty-one days of the mailing date shown on the bill.

Waste Management recycling and special pickups

Curbside single-stream recycling with automated collection carts is offered in partnership with Waste Management.

Special collection programs cover electronics, appliances, tires, used motor oil and automotive batteries. Special pickups are requested through the City's Sanitation Special Pickup form.

Historic districts and the lot mowing program

Local historic districts include the Downtown Historic District, the Neighborhood Conservation District, the Main Street Historic District and the Grace Street Mid-Century Modern Historic District. The Main Street Historic District covers the traditional historic commercial area of the city.

Property inside a Historic Overlay district needs an approved Certificate of Appropriateness before structures such as fences, walls, signs, driveways and walkways are erected, altered or restored. Regular maintenance is exempt.

A mandatory lot mowing program covers eligible undeveloped properties, with mowing, trimming and sidewalk edging a set number of times per year.

Alert Punta Gorda, voter registration and the airport

Emergency alerts such as mandatory evacuations, severe weather warnings and boil water notices are sent by call, text or email through Alert Punta Gorda.

Voter registration, registration status, polling locations and Vote-by-Mail requests are handled by the Charlotte County Supervisor of Elections at 226 Taylor Street, (941)833-5400.

Punta Gorda Airport is owned and operated by the Charlotte County Airport Authority.
