Local services and rules

Moving to Kennesaw: who to call and what the city asks.

Kennesaw is a suburban city in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta. Electricity can come from Cobb EMC, a cooperative that serves consumers in Cobb, Bartow, Cherokee, Fulton and Paulding counties. At the county Transfer Station, the only proof of residence accepted is a valid Georgia driver's license.

Parking complaints, CobbLinc and McCollum Field

A vehicle parked illegally on the street or on private property is reported by calling the police non-emergency number, 770-422-2505, and asking for an officer to be dispatched. No action is taken unless an officer observes the violation.

CobbLinc is the county's transit system. It has transfer centers in Marietta and Cumberland, local bus routes, a free Circulator route and a Microtransit zone.

Cobb County International Airport - McCollum Field (RYY) is a general aviation airport and does not service commercial airlines.

Cobb EMC and Cobb County Water System accounts

Starting, stopping or transferring Cobb EMC service takes two business days to process. For faster service, call 770-429-2100. The cooperative's Service Address Finder tells you whether Cobb EMC powers a given address.

Cobb County Water System supplies water to the cities of Acworth, Kennesaw, Powder Springs and Mableton, as well as unincorporated Cobb County. A new customer without an existing account starts service with the online Move-In Request. The system requires 48 hours' notice, and online requests can take 5-7 business days. To get water sooner, call 770-419-6200.

Transfer Station fees and recycling

Cobb County residents pay a minimum of $14.00 at the Transfer Station for the first 400 pounds of household solid waste and construction and demolition debris. Weight beyond that is charged at $0.03 per pound.

Some items carry their own charge: tires are $15.00 each, mattresses $16.00 each, propane tanks $15.00 each, paint $8.00 per can, and Freon $5.00.

Cobb County holds its Household Hazardous Waste Event once a year.

For curbside recycling, the county tells residents to ask their garbage provider, since the county code requires haulers to offer it.

Cobb County School District registration

A student new to the district registers through its online registration system at olr.cobbk12.org, uploading all enrollment documents. A current Cobb student who changes schools because of a new address logs into ParentVUE, updates the address and completes the Change Schools process.

Cobb County Public Library cards

Library cards are free for all Cobb County residents. Sign up in person at any library location or register for an eCard online. A photo ID is used to confirm the applicant's current address, and every applicant, children included, must be present.

Voter registration at the Cobb elections office

The Cobb County Elections and Registration Main Office, at 995 Roswell St NE in Marietta, registers voters in person Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. An application can be mailed out by calling 770-528-2581. A voter who moves within Cobb County notifies the elections office 30 days before any election.
