Local services and rules

Moving to Largo: who to call and what the city asks.

Largo is in Pinellas County. The City of Largo utility page says Pinellas County Utilities coordinates start-up and billing for sewer, trash and recycling collection, and water and drainage services. Public Works maintains streets owned by the City of Largo; for streets the City does not own, residents contact Pinellas County.

Pinellas County Utilities deposit and phone hours

Residential customers are required to pay a deposit based on meter size and the number of services billed at the dwelling. Pinellas County Utilities customer service is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at (727) 464-4000, and start or stop requests for water or sewer service go through its Customer Service Center contact page.

Largo trash, yard waste and recycling carts

The City of Largo offers trash and recycling collection for residents and businesses. The Solid Waste team can be reached at 727-587-6760 with service questions.

Yard waste is collected weekly on the household's designated curbside recycling day at no additional charge. Recycling carts cannot hold bags, clothes, styrofoam or yard waste.

Four bulky waste collections a year

Each residential household may have up to four bulky waste collections a year, each limited to 10 cubic yards, and the collections are scheduled weekly. Bulky items that cannot fit into the garbage cart, such as sofas, large dressers, mattresses and box springs, go through this program.

Bulky items are set near the curb. They must not block sidewalks, streets or swales, and they must be kept separate from yard waste, household trash and recyclables.

Pinellas County hazardous waste and recycling drop-off centers

Chemicals and hazardous materials cannot be collected as bulky waste and must be handled by Pinellas County Hazardous Waste programs. The household hazardous waste program is for Pinellas County households only and collects chemicals for free at a permanent facility at 2855 109th Avenue N. in St. Petersburg and another at 29582 U.S. 19 N. in Clearwater.

The county also has mixed recycling drop-off centers that residents can use free of charge, managed by Pinellas County and its municipalities.

School Zone Locator and PSTA fares

Pinellas County Schools has a School Zone Locator that finds a child's assigned school from the home address. Its Student Assignment Office can be reached at StudentAssignment@pcsb.org or (727) 588-6210.

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority fares page says children 8 and under ride for free and Pinellas County Public School students ride for free with ID.

Library cards, pet licenses and Know Your Zone

The Largo Public Library issues free library cards in person inside the library, at the drive-through, or online, and applicants bring identification.

Pinellas County requires pet owners to license their cats and dogs. Dogs and cats over four months old need a rabies vaccination or an exemption letter from a veterinarian to get the license.

The City of Largo storm page points to the Know Your Zone tool for evacuation zones, which are based on the risk of life-threatening storm surge and differ from FEMA flood zones.
