Moving to Melbourne: who to call and what the city asks.

Part of the City of Melbourne is on the mainland and part is on a barrier island, with the Indian River Lagoon between them. City irrigation rules say to water only when needed and not between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and to water for no more than one hour per zone. The city has also created two community redevelopment areas, the Melbourne Downtown CRA and the Olde Eau Gallie Riverfront CRA.

Downtown Melbourne public parking

Downtown Melbourne has free public parking lots and a City Hall parking garage. Overnight parking is not allowed in the garage, and signs at each lot show time limits.

Opening a water account with the City of Melbourne

New water customers complete the online Application for Water Service form with their documents attached, and the City of Melbourne responds within two working days. Paper applications are at City Hall in the lobby.

WM collection and curbside bulky items

WM handles solid waste, recycling and yard waste collection for the City of Melbourne. Residents can look up their collection days by address on an interactive map on the city page.

Bulky items such as furniture and bicycles may be placed curbside on the yard waste collection day, 3 feet away from storm drains, yard waste, garbage carts or other obstructions. Appliances are a scheduled specialty bulky item, and the door must be removed and all contents taken out.

Sarno Landfill household hazardous waste center

Brevard County residents may take accepted household chemical and electronic items from non-business activities to a county Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at no cost, and proof of residency may be required. One center is at the Sarno Landfill, 3379 Sarno Road, Melbourne. The City of Melbourne trash page says electronics batteries go to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the same landfill.

Melbourne High School and Brevard County library cards

Melbourne High School is a Brevard Public Schools school, and students not zoned for it apply through the district's Education Location Option (ELO) or Education Program Option (EPO).

Brevard County library cards are free for any Brevard County resident and are valid for 3 years. Adults show a photo ID and proof of Brevard County residency at any branch.
