Local services and rules

Moving to Redwood City: who to call and what the city asks.

Moving a vehicle is mandatory on street cleaning days along certain segments of Douglas Avenue and Broadway, Beech, Marshall and Maple Streets, with no parking from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sewer service is billed by the City only for addresses within the City limits of Redwood City. Animal control is run through a contract with San Mateo County as a countywide program.

Residential street cleaning schedule

Each neighborhood is cleaned once every two weeks, except on holidays. Residential street cleaning starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends when the route is complete.

Residential permit parking zones

The City runs a residential permit parking program in zones that include Stambaugh-Heller and Downtown, Friendly Acres, Canyon and Edgewood Park, and Mt. Carmel.

A permit application needs valid registration for each vehicle, up to three per address. Applicants must show proof of living in the parking zone, such as a vehicle registration, utility bill, lease or rental agreement.

Water and sewer accounts with Revenue Services

The City of Redwood City bills for water and, where it applies, sewer service. A new customer fills out an application and signs for the services to start them. Residential customers are billed every two months.

Stopping service when moving out is done by calling or emailing Revenue Services, and closures can be scheduled ahead of time.

Recology bins and household hazardous waste

Recology of San Mateo County is the contractor the City selected for all solid waste collection and billing in Redwood City. Collection covers bins for garbage, recyclables and organics, picked up on collection day.

Household hazardous waste such as batteries, motor oil and medication must be disposed of separately from regular bins. Residents can schedule a free drop-off at the San Mateo County HHW Collection Facility.

School districts the City lists

The City lists the Redwood City School District (TK-8) among the districts for Redwood City schools. It also lists the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District, with Sandpiper Elementary and Redwood Shores Elementary. For high school it lists the Sequoia Union High School District, with Redwood, Sequoia and Woodside.

Redwood City Public Library cards

The Redwood City Public Library gives card holders access to books, movies, downloadables, museum passes and online learning. Cards are available through a sign-up.

Short-term rental registration

Short-term rentals are generally lodging or overnight stays lasting less than 30 consecutive days in a residential dwelling. A signed affidavit must be uploaded with a short-term rental registration application.

Neighborhoods the City names

The City names neighborhoods including the Farm Hill Road area, Redwood Shores, Friendly Acres, Downtown, Woodside Plaza and Roosevelt.
