Local services and rules

Moving to Round Rock: who to call and what the city asks.

Round Rock is in Williamson County and also extends into Travis County. Year-round water use standards are in effect, and lawn irrigation follows the Watering Schedule and must occur before 10:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. The City's drought rules apply to all Round Rock water customers, including residents in Municipal Utility Districts outside the city limits. Separately, deed restrictions set by a homeowners association are private contracts that the City does not enforce.

Resident parking in Lake Creek West and Plantation Cove

Two areas have on-street parking restricted to neighborhood residents during certain hours: the Lake Creek West district near Round Rock High School and the Plantation Cove district near Old Town Elementary School.

In the Plantation Cove district, parking on the street without a valid resident or visitor permit is prohibited on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents apply through the City permit portal, free of charge, with vehicle registration for each vehicle and proof of residency.

Curbside carts and Republic Services bulk pickup

Garbage is collected weekly and recycling every other week. Carts must be placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on the pickup day. Besides the cart, up to 7 additional items, including bundled brush, bagged leaves and grass clippings, may be placed at the curb. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day are the only holidays that move curbside pickup.

In-City residents, whose water bill comes directly from the City, can schedule one free bulk pickup per year by calling Republic Services at 512-255-4980 one week before their regular collection day. Bulk pickup is limited to 5 cubic yards, placed neatly at the curb by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day. It does not take refrigerators, freezers, AC units or other appliances that have contained Freon.

Deepwood Recycling Center and the Brush Recycling Center

The Deepwood Recycling Center takes household hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides and cleaners, Tuesday to Saturday, 12 to 4 p.m., up to 25 gallons per month. It is free for City residents and voucher holders. Drop-off is $60 for non-residents, by card or check only.

The Brush Recycling Center at 310 Deepwood Drive takes up to 2 cubic yards of brush free from residents of the full-purpose city limits, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Oncor, Atmos Energy and Power to Choose

Oncor delivers the electricity in Round Rock, and residents choose their own provider for billing; the City points new residents to Power to Choose. The City lists Atmos Energy as the gas provider, phone 1-800-460-3030.

City water, sewer and four billing zones

The City provides residents with water, wastewater (sewer), stormwater drainage and garbage and recycling collection. New residents can reach the City at 512-218-5460. The City offers a deposit waiver for eligible residential customers applying for service.

The City's service area is split into four billing zones by property location, so customers cannot change their due date. The City also has a New Resident Guide covering utilities, schools, neighborhood associations and city services.

Round Rock ISD, the library and Williamson County voter rolls

Round Rock ISD enrolls new students pre-K through grade 12 through an online enrollment portal. New students need a certified birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residence within Round Rock ISD boundaries.

Library cards are applied for in person. City residents need a valid Texas ID with a current Round Rock address, or a government ID plus an official document such as a lease or recent utility bill. Resident cards expire after two years.

Williamson County registers voters; new registrations and address changes must be submitted thirty days before Election Day to count for that election. Texas voters register in their county of residence, not by party.

Round Rock Rides and CapMetro routes 50, 152 and 980

Round Rock Rides provides service within city limits, and CapMetro routes 50, 152 and 980 provide local service and connections to Austin. CapMetro Route 980 runs from the Round Rock Transit Center to New Life Park & Ride and on into downtown Austin.

Floodplain checks and ATXfloods.com

The City participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, so flood insurance may be bought by any owner or resident within the City. The City recommends that owners and renters check whether their property is in the FEMA 500-year or 100-year floodplain and consider flood insurance if it is.

ATXfloods.com shows where low water crossings are closed across the Central Texas region.
