Moving to Saratoga Springs: who to call and what the city asks.

Saratoga Springs is a city in Saratoga County, New York. The city's water comes from the Loughberry Lake supply plus a system of wells in the Geyser Crest neighborhood. A Certificate of Residency, used with college applications, is issued by the City Clerk's Office to residents who have lived at the same city address for at least one continuous year; others go to the Saratoga County Treasurer's Office in Ballston Spa.

Permits for dumpsters and construction equipment

A Right of Way Permit Application is required to place a dumpster or construction equipment in the City Right of Way. A Dumpster Permit Application is required to place a dumpster on private property.

Sidewalks, leaves and the 11pm to 7am noise limit

Sidewalks must be cleared 12 hours after a storm has stopped. Leaves and lawn debris are collected at the curb by the Department of Public Works; from October through December, lawn debris can be piled loosely at the curb. The city noise ordinance allows no noise between 11pm and 7am.

The Utilities Office and online tax bills

Water and sewer billing accounts are handled by a Utilities Office within the DPW Utilities Group. The Finance Department gives city taxpayers online access to property tax bills and utility bills for online payment.

The Transfer Station on Weibel Avenue

Residents drop off trash at the Transfer Station at 41 Weibel Avenue, run by the Department of Public Works, Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm. The Transfer Station accepts single-stream recyclables, so recyclables do not need to be sorted. The city compost site is across the street from the Transfer Station, at 32 Weibel Ave.

Student registration with the school district

Student registration is done online. Registration requires proof of residency, proof of the student's age (birth certificate), physical and immunization records, custody agreements if applicable, and photo identification of both parents. Families unsure whether an address is inside the school district boundaries contact the District Registrar at (518) 583-4789. Families moving into the district after the school year begins may pay tuition to start the school year in the district until they move in.

The Saratoga Springs Public Library card

A library card at the Saratoga Springs Public Library requires an application, online or in person, and government issued identification. The card can be used at member libraries of the Southern Adirondack Library (SALS) and Mohawk Valley Library (MVLS) Systems, subject to each library's policies.

Dog licenses and short-term rental licenses

Dog license applications are made at the City Clerk's Office in the Accounts Department at City Hall, 474 Broadway. A short-term rental license is required annually for a property or unit rented for less than 30 consecutive days.
