Local services and rules

Moving to Beaverton: who to call and what the city asks.

Some properties with a Beaverton address sit outside the city limits, in unincorporated Washington County, Hillsboro, Tigard and parts of Portland, and city staff can give only limited information about those. Inside the limits, the City of Beaverton provides water to about 90% of the people, and Raleigh Water District and Tualatin Valley Water District also serve parts of the area. Garbage and recycling are handled by franchised haulers, each serving a specific area of the city, while the City sets the collection rates and service standards.

Downtown parking, street sweeping sections and truck limits

Downtown Beaverton parking includes free on-street parking with time limits, free public lots, a fee-based garage, and permit parking for employees and residents in the area.

Street sweeping runs in sections. Section A is swept the first week of each month, and the other sections are swept in the second, third and fourth weeks. A schedule map is on the City page.

Under the City's common code violations, an inoperable vehicle left on a public road for more than 48 hours is treated as an abandoned vehicle. A truck with 3 or more axles, or a gross vehicle weight of 20,000 pounds or more, parked in a residential zone is a public nuisance unless it is there to pick up or deliver goods.

PGE, NW Natural and the City utility billing office

The City lists Portland General Electric (PGE) as the electricity utility, at 503-228-6322 or 800-542-8818. NW Natural Gas is the gas utility, at 800-422-4012. For cable, the City lists Comcast, and for internet and phone service it lists Comcast, CenturyLink and Ziply.

The City utility billing department handles city-operated residential and commercial water, sewer and surface water management accounts. Service can be started online through the Start Service link on the City utilities page, or by phone at 503-526-2257.

Weekly collection and Metro drop-off sites

Residential service includes weekly collection of garbage, compost, mixed recycling and glass recycling, all on the same day. Customers contact their hauler to find their collection day.

For items beyond the curb, such as mattresses, electronics, tires and paint, the City points residents to the Metro Find a Recycler tool to locate drop-off places. Metro Central Transfer Station is named as a place that accepts most materials, including household garbage and hazardous waste, and the City advises checking hours and accepted materials with each facility.

Beaverton School District registration and WCCLS library cards

The Beaverton School District enrolls new and returning students through online registration, and registration packets are available at the neighborhood school. Only custodial parents can enroll a student, and registration needs proof of the student's date of birth, proof of address and immunization records.

A general library card is a Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) card, gotten in person at a WCCLS library with photo ID and proof of address.

Tax code areas, Housing Mediation and the Floodplain team

Beaverton is divided into tax code areas, and a property's tax code depends on the agencies levying taxes in its area. Property taxes are collected by Washington County.

The City offers Housing Mediation for tenants and landlords on issues such as rent and repairs. It is free, voluntary and confidential.

City staff can give flood information for any property inside the city limits, such as whether a FEMA elevation certificate is on file. The Floodplain team can be reached at (503)-350-4021.

Beaverton Transit Center and the neighborhood committees

The Beaverton Transit Center is at 4050 SW Lombard, north of SW Canyon, and is served by the MAX Blue Line, the MAX Red Line and WES.

The City has 11 official neighborhoods, each with a Neighborhood Association Committee that residents join automatically at no cost.
