Moving to Christiansburg: who to call and what the city asks.

Christiansburg is a town in the southwestern portion of Montgomery County, Virginia. Electricity is not provided by the town; it comes from local area providers. Town residents also receive membership to the Christiansburg Recreation Center.

Weekly garbage and every-other-week recycling carts

The town provides curbside garbage pickup every week and curbside recycling pickup every other week, billed with water and sewer service. Registered households receive one green garbage cart (96 or 48 gallons) and one blue recycling cart (96 or 65 gallons).

Garbage and recycling go out by 8 a.m. on the day of pickup. Hazardous household waste is not set out with regular household garbage.

Where a snow bank sits at the curb, carts are placed only in a shoveled, level opening, or the garbage may not be collected.

Solid waste sign-up at Town Hall

Sign-up is at Town Hall, 100 East Main Street, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by calling 540-382-6128.

Service can start the day after registration where garbage and recycling carts are already in place. A location new to town solid waste collection may wait up to a week.

For a move within town limits, the Finance Department at 540-382-9519 is called with the address change, and the Public Works Department moves the carts.

Fall and Spring Clean Up, brush collection and special pickup

Items too large for the carts can be stored until the fall or spring cleanup period, or a special pickup can be requested from the town at 540-382-9519. Fees apply for special pickup.

Households moving with a significant volume of trash can call the town at 540-382-1151 to set up a special collection (fees apply) or take it to the MRSWA landfill. Curbside brush collection happens once a month beginning on the first Monday of the month.
