Local services and rules

Moving to Croydon: who to call and what the city asks.

Croydon is a census-designated place in Bristol Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Township requires a sewer lateral inspection before a property served by the Township Sewer Department is sold or transferred, and the application is submitted 30 days before settlement.

Snow parking and street sweeping

During snow, on-street parking is limited to one side of the street where off-street parking is unavailable. In odd-numbered years, cars park on the odd-numbered side. A vehicle parked, stalled or abandoned on a public street within 12 hours after 3 inches or more of snow may be towed.

Bristol Township sweeps streets by neighborhood section on a set schedule, including Old Croydon. Vehicles must be off the street on scheduled sweeping days.

Waste Management carts and collection day

Bristol Township contracts with Waste Management for automated trash and recycling, yard waste and bulk item pickup. Trash and recycling are collected once a week, and every residential customer receives a waste cart and a recycling cart.

Carts go out at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day, with wheels and handles toward the curb and 4 feet of space around each cart. A holiday that falls Monday through Friday delays all later collection services that week by one day, and Friday service moves to Saturday.

All trash must be placed inside the Township-issued waste carts; bags left on the ground or street are not collected. An extra trash cart is bought directly from Waste Management, and the Township does not supply additional containers.

Recycling, yard waste, bulk items and hazardous waste

Residential recycling is required by Bristol Township ordinance. Yard waste goes in rigid containers or paper bags, with no plastic bags. Household hazardous waste, such as oil-based paints, pesticides, fuels and automotive batteries, is not collected at the curb.

One bulk item can be put out each month on the regular collection day. Examples are a mattress (which must be wrapped), washer, dryer, desk and refrigerator.

Township sewer, water suppliers and the school district

Bristol Township runs the sanitary sewer system serving Croydon and West Bristol, with sewer bills handled by the Township Sewer Department.

Water in Croydon, Edgely, Bristol and West Bristol comes from AQUA or from Bucks County Water and Sewer. The Levittown and Fairless Hills sections of the Township use other water suppliers.

The Bristol Township School District serves students in Bristol Township and operates independently of Township government.
