Local services and rules

Moving to Indiana: who to call and what the city asks.

Parking in the Borough garage is free Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 PM. Homeowners who hold a street-parking sticker pay no charge when moving out of Indiana Borough, and the stickers do not need to be returned. On the tax side, White Township is the only municipality in Indiana County that does not collect a real estate tax.

Street parking permits at the Parking Office

Homeowners who want a permit for street parking first contact the Parking Office to see whether permit parking is available on their street. If it is, a sticker is given to the homeowner.

Renters' parking permits are issued annually and run from September 1st to August 31st of the following year. They are issued at the Parking Office in the Parking Garage at 650 Water Street.

Contractors can get 2-day and 16-day parking permits, or an annual contractor permit for a flat fee of $100 that allows parking in any permit parking area in the Borough.

Meters enforced Monday through Saturday

Parking meters in Indiana Borough are enforced Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The Borough has 686 metered parking spaces, which does not include permit parking for Borough residents.

Snow lanes and leaf piles from Public Works

Public Works plows 38 miles of snow lanes each time it snows and starts salting Borough roadways once snow or freezing rain begins.

Leaves are collected curbside each fall. Residents rake them into piles between the curb and sidewalk, not into the street, and do not put yard waste in plastic bags.

Waste Management garbage days, bulk items and recycling

Waste Management, Inc. collects garbage in Indiana Borough. Garbage goes in sealed containers at the rear of the property and is set at the curb no sooner than 24 hours before collection.

Residential garbage pick-up is Monday through Thursday, depending on whether the address is north or south of Philadelphia Street and east or west of 7th Street. Borough residents are billed for it on the monthly utility bill.

Bulk item collection is limited to once per month, and during the bulk collection week residents can dispose of two bulk items. Collection must be scheduled online or by calling Waste Management at least 48 hours in advance; additional bulk items can be scheduled for a fee.

Weekly curbside recycling is available to all households in Indiana Borough: aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, newspapers and plastic bottles (types 1 and 2). Replacement recycling bins cost $15.00 and are available from the municipal office at 80 N. 8th Street.

Borough residents can schedule on-demand Household Hazardous Waste collection for free. Yard clippings, leaves and limbs can be recycled at the Indiana County Recycling Center year round.

The monthly Indiana Borough utility bill

Indiana Borough bills its utility charges monthly; bills are mailed around the 10th and are due on the last business day of the month.

The Indiana Borough Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility serves Indiana Borough, White Township, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Morganti Development.

Dogs are licensed through the Indiana County Treasurer's Office at the Courthouse, 825 Philadelphia St. An annual regular license is $10.80 and a lifetime regular license is $52.80; licenses must be bought by January 1st each year.

IndiGO buses, the Indiana Free Library and the Indiana Area School District
