Moving to Katy: who to call and what the city asks.

Katy is approximately centered at the tripoint of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties. Voter registration for Katy residents goes through the Fort Bend, Harris or Waller county voter registrar. A Katy mailing address does not mean a home is inside the city limits, and the Am I a Resident? map is used to check the address before applying for city service.

City water and sewer accounts

The city provides water and wastewater service to its customers. A residential account is opened with an application that can be submitted by email, mail or in person.

New water service applications received by 2:00 pm are processed the same day, and later ones are processed the following business day. Only the names listed on the application can make changes to the account, request information or access it.

Garbage and recycling carts

Household garbage goes in the cart placed near the curb by 7 AM. Recycling goes loosely in the cart and should be empty, clean and dry cardboard, paper, metal cans, glass, plastic bottles and jugs.

Standard carts are 95-gallon, and a smaller 65-gallon cart is available for garbage and for recycling on request. Dirt, rocks, bricks, concrete, liquid paints, fuels, oils, tires, pesticides, fertilizer, batteries, pallets, construction debris and hazardous waste are not allowed in curbside collection.

Bulky items and yard debris

Texas Pride Disposal collects up to three bulky items each week, such as furniture, appliances or objects that cannot fit in the garbage cart. The items are placed at the curb next to the garbage cart.

An additional quarterly pickup of bulky items, bags and bundles is offered, limited to 6 cubic yards of volume. Weekly yard debris collection is limited to 15 bags of no more than 35 pounds each.

Katy ISD campuses and registration

Katy Independent School District campuses inside the city limits include Katy Elementary School, Hutsell Elementary School, WoodCreek Elementary School, Katy Junior High School, WoodCreek Junior High School and Katy High School.

Katy ISD new students register online, with documents gathered and uploaded before starting. Katy ISD does not accept expired or disconnected utility bills or notices as proof of residency.

Animal Control and KTALERT

Pets of residents within the city jurisdiction do not need to be registered with Katy Animal Control. Dogs and cats of residents within the city jurisdiction can be microchipped through Katy Animal Control.

KTALERT is the city mass notification system that sends emergency messages to all registered phones in the zone where it is activated.
