Local services and rules

Moving to League City: who to call and what the city asks.

League City is primarily zoned to the Clear Creek Independent School District, with a portion of the city zoned to the Dickinson Independent School District. The recycling cart is the property of AmeriWaste and stays at the address it was delivered to when a resident moves out. Construction debris is not picked up with normal trash. A League City property tax payment is shared among the City of League City and other taxing entities, including the Clear Creek Independent School District and Galveston County.

Parking on the grass

Cars, boats and recreational vehicles parked on the grass are a violation of city ordinance.

AmeriWaste trash zones and curb times

The city has three trash zones: Yellow Zone on Mondays and Thursdays, Green Zone on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Blue Zone on Wednesdays and Saturdays. AmeriWaste is the primary trash provider, and an interactive map on the city page shows the pickup days for an address.

Trash cans go out at the curb by 7 a.m. on the pickup day, but no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before. Pickup can happen anywhere between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

All new residents are serviced by Ameriwaste for garbage collection and recycling. A recycling cart that is needed is requested by emailing AmeriWaste or calling 281-585-3200.

Yard waste must be bagged or bundled, and each household may set out no more than six yard-waste bags or bundles per pickup.

Heavy trash and the Hill Sand roll-off

Heavy trash such as furniture, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines and dryers is picked up at the curb, limited to two items per collection day. Refrigerators and freezers must be drained of Freon.

For construction debris, a roll-off can be ordered from Hill Sand Inc. at 281-482-1213, the subcontractor approved by AmeriWaste.

Drop-off sites for debris and hazardous waste

Residents can take construction debris to the AmeriWaste facility at 3894 Hwy 6 once a month, bringing a driver's license and a paid, current water bill as proof of residency.

Stella Roberts Recycling Center in Pearland, at 5800 Magnolia Pkwy, takes household hazardous waste by appointment from Tuesday through Saturday. Two household hazardous waste disposal events are held at Hometown Heroes each year, one in spring and one in fall, as part of the city's agreement with AmeriWaste.

The New Resident Services page and utility companies

The city has a New Resident Services page with links to setting up water and sewer service, a list of utility company phone numbers, driver licensing offices, and a downloadable League City Resident Guide.

The page lists Reliant Energy and First Choice Power for electricity, and CenterPointe Energy (Gas) for natural gas. For cable and internet it lists Comcast Cable, AT&T Internet, Direct TV, HughesNet and Viasat Satellite Internet, Telephone & TV.

Someone moving from one residence in League City to another fills out the city's transfer service form for water and sewer.

Clear Creek ISD enrollment

Clear Creek ISD has an In-District Enrollment page for families joining the district for the first time or adding a student to an existing Family Access account. An interactive map on the city's school zones page shows which school an address is zoned to.

Library cards, pet tags, voter registration and the flood map

A library card application can be filled out online instead of waiting in line at the library. A library card requires proof of residence, such as a valid Texas ID, a lease, a bill or insurance. Items other than the Texas ID can be shown electronically on a smart device.

All dogs, cats and ferrets over three months of age must be registered with the City and wear a City registration tag. Registration is done at the shelter during business hours with a current rabies certificate.

The city's County Services page links to Galveston County for registering to vote. The city also has a detailed map of flood zones that residents can use to check an address.
