Local services and rules

Moving to Winter Park: who to call and what the city asks.

Winter Park is in Orange County, about three miles north of Orlando. The city runs its own municipal electric utility. A Winter Park boat sticker or day pass is required before launching motorboats on the chain of lakes. The rental, use or occupancy of any residential dwelling for less than one month is prohibited.

Front yards, commercial vehicles and signs

Parking within the front yard area is prohibited. Commercial vehicles are not allowed in residential zoning districts.

Boats, trailers and recreational vehicles may be stored in public view for 24 hours only, per calendar week. Inoperative or disabled vehicles may not be stored on residential property, and the city may tag and tow them from private property.

Signs placed in the city rights of way or on trees or telephone poles are prohibited.

Garbage carts, the 9 p.m. rule and apartment schedules

Garbage goes in carts or containers provided by the City of Winter Park/Waste Pro. An online tool shows a collection schedule by home address, offers reminder sign-ups, and lists what goes where.

Apartment and condo residents get their garbage collection schedule from the property manager. Multi-family complexes are not required to offer recycling collection; those that want it contact WastePro.

Garbage containers must be returned to the rear or side yard by 9 p.m. on the day of collection.

Bulk pickups, refrigerator doors and hazardous waste

Additional bulk pickups can be ordered from Waste Pro for an additional charge. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers before they are placed curbside.

Household hazardous waste and electronic waste may not be placed in garbage carts.

Residential property may not be used for open storage of vehicle parts, appliances, building materials, garbage, waste, trash or debris.

Outages and the Utilities Request form

Power outages are reported by phone to 1-877-811-8700.

Starting or stopping city utility service is requested through an online Utilities Request form on the city website, which is open to residential customers only.

Water, wastewater and online bill payment

The Water & Wastewater Utilities department handles the treatment and distribution of potable water, collection and treatment of wastewater, and distribution of reclaimed water.

Customers of the city's utility billing office must register to view or pay bills online.

SunRail station and Park Avenue

A SunRail station named Winter Park/Amtrak is at 148 West Morse Boulevard, and parking at the station is subject to city ordinances and availability.

The Downtown Winter Park Historic District runs along Park Avenue.
