Moving to Adrian: who to call and what the city asks.

Adrian is the county seat of Lenawee County, Michigan. New residents do not need to sign up for trash collection, and trash billing is a line item on the property's summer tax bill. A rental housing inspection program requires all non-owner occupied residential properties to be inspected on a systematic city-wide basis.

Parking permits, the overnight ban and snow emergencies

The Engineering Department oversees permits for road closures and digging or construction within the city right-of-way. The same department administers temporary and annual on-street parking permits for local residential streets.

Annual on-street parking permits expire on January 1 each year. On-street parking permits are not valid on the 100 blocks of Main and Maumee Streets or on state highways. Parking on any city street is not allowed between 3:00am and 6:00am without a special permit.

The City Administrator declares snow emergencies, and they bring special parking restrictions. During a declared snow emergency, parking on a city street is prohibited, including for vehicles with on-street parking permits.

Tuesday trash and recycling with Stevens Disposal

Stevens Disposal is the trash contractor for the city. Curbside trash pickup is on Tuesdays. Totes go to the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. Monday and out by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Yard waste bags, item stickers and the drop-off sites

Yard waste goes out in biodegradable or compostable paper bags weighing no more than fifty pounds. Large items such as appliances and furniture are picked up after a sticker is bought for each item at City Hall.

The Lenawee County Recycling Drop Off Site is at 307 N. River Street in Adrian. It is open to all Lenawee County residents for household recyclables.

City residents get a window sticker from City Hall to use the compost site on Oakwood Avenue. Hazardous waste disposal options are available through Lenawee Solid Waste, reachable at 517-264-4511.

Water and sewer sign-up and billing dates

Residential water and sewer service for homes up to and including 4-unit apartments is set up through an online sign-up form. Water and sewer bills are generated near the 17th of each month, with a due date on or as close to the 5th as possible.

School enrollment, library cards, voter registration and Dial-A-Ride

Adrian Public Schools requires parents or legal guardians to complete enrollment in person. Enrollment requires a birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency such as a property tax statement, mortgage document, lease agreement or utility bill.

Adrian District Library cards are available to anyone who lives in or owns property in the City of Adrian. Voters can register at the City Clerk's Office in City Hall, 135 E. Maumee Street.
