Local services and rules

Moving to Coral Springs: who to call and what the city asks.

Permanent water conservation measures limit landscape irrigation in Coral Springs to two days a week: odd-numbered street addresses on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays, even-numbered addresses on Thursdays and/or Sundays, and only before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. The city's outside storage rule bars yards, patios and driveways from serving as storage areas for items such as building materials, tires, indoor furniture, appliances and boxes. Commercial vehicles, including moving trucks, are prohibited at the city's Waste Transfer Station, even if the business is located within the city.

Parking, noise hours and portable storage units

Under the city's vehicle and parking guidelines, commercial and recreational vehicles (boats, motorhomes, trailers) may not be parked between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday.

The noise ordinance bars construction, repair or demolition equipment, and loud machinery, between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on weekdays and between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and legal holidays. The same section counts loading, unloading or handling boxes, crates and containers in a way that disturbs the peace of the neighborhood as a noise disturbance.

The city's Planning and Zoning page offers a Portable Storage Units Application for portable storage containers.

Coastal's cart schedule

Coastal collects the green garbage cart two times a week, and the blue recycling cart and bulk trash once a week. Carts go within 5 feet of the curb by 7 a.m. on collection days. They need a 3-foot clearance on all sides and cannot be placed next to fire hydrants, mailboxes, cars or on the sidewalk.

The city's garbage guideline adds that carts are removed from the curb by 7 p.m. on the scheduled pick-up day.

Curbside bulk limits

Bulk trash collection applies to single-family homes only; residents of multi-family buildings follow their HOA's schedule and restrictions. Curbside bulk should not exceed 6 cubic yards, about the size of 6 kitchen stoves or 3 refrigerators. A pile over the limit is not hauled away, and Coastal tags it with haul-away instructions.

Only 2 cubic yards of the 6 allowed may be construction debris, and extra garbage bags placed with bulk are not picked up. Accepted bulk includes couches, chairs, mattresses, tables, appliances, and carpet and padding.

Appliance prep, set-out times and the Wiles Road drop-off

Refrigerator and freezer doors and Freon must be removed before curbside pickup, and notice of the Freon removal must be visible. Bulk may be placed within 5 feet of the street no earlier than 7 p.m. the day before and no later than 7 a.m.

Residents may also drop off bulk, recycling and organic materials at the Waste Transfer Station, 12600 Wiles Road, on Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 5 p.m. It is free for residents, who must show valid I.D. and proof of address.

Florida Power and Light, and water by area

A service-provider directory lists Florida Power and Light for electric service in the Coral Springs area. The same directory lists water and sewer for the north side of Coral Springs (zip code 33076) under the North Springs Improvement District, and the center portion (zip code 33065) under the City of Coral Springs.

The City of Coral Springs water district is one of several water districts in the city. Its area of service runs from Wiles Road south to the south side of Royal Palm Boulevard. To open an account, a new account holder completes the Utility Service Application and Agreement form, and most single-family homes require a $150 deposit, which appears on the first bill. City water accounts can only be made in the name of the property owner.

To close a City of Coral Springs water account when selling a home, the seller contacts the water office at 954-344-1825 and gives the account number, service address, termination date, proof of sale and a forwarding address. Terminations are scheduled Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Landlord Registration

Coral Springs requires anyone who leases or offers for lease a residential unit or property to register it with the city's Code Compliance Division using a Landlord Registration Application. The registration period runs from October 1 through September 30 of each year.

Broward County schools, the community shuttle and the NW Regional Library

Public schools in Coral Springs are part of Broward County Public Schools, and the city has an Education Officer who connects the city, the district and the community.

The Coral Springs Community Shuttle Bus, run with Broward County Transit, is free for residents and visitors. The Blue and Green routes end an hour earlier on Saturdays and Sundays.

The NW Regional Library is at 3151 N University Drive in Coral Springs. Residents register to vote through the Broward County Supervisor of Elections.

Flood maps and hurricane evacuation

The City of Coral Springs is not considered an evacuation area for hurricanes. The city provides Flood Insurance Rate Map information for a property, including whether it is in the Special Flood Hazard Area, through its Engineering Department at 954-345-2160.
